Selection of Applicants to Interview for the Historic Resources Board,
the Parks and Recreation Commission, and the Planning and
Transportation Commission
Recommendation
Direct Staff to schedule interviews with all applicants for scheduled vacancies.
Discussion
A total of 22 applications have been submitted during this recruitment period. Staff is
requesting the City Council select the candidates to be interviewed for:
• Three positions on the Historic Resources Board with terms ending on
December 15, 2022;
• Four positions on the Parks and Recreation Commission with terms ending on
December 15, 2022; and
• One position on the Planning and Transportation Commission with a term
ending on December 15, 2023.
A date and time for the interviews is to be determined. Planning and Transportation
Commission interviews are 15 minutes per candidate, while the other Boards and
Commissions are 10 minutes each. If Council elects to interview all applicants, it is
estimated the meeting will last 4.5 hours.
Copies of all applications are available online. Some applications may be redacted at
the request of the applicant. A full se t of non-redacted applications will be provided to
Council Members directly.
Background
The City Council can select which applicants to interview for the open positions. During
the last several recruitments, Council has elected to interview all applicants for
respective Boards and Commissions. The City Clerk’s Office advertised this recruitment
from September 24, 2019 through November 5, 2019, satisfying the 15-day minimum
advertising period outlined in Municipal Code Section 2.16.060(a). Advertising included
placements in the Daily Post newspaper, Palo Alto Online Express email, Palo Alto
Weekly newspaper; announcements by the City Manager during Council meetings,
promotion on the City’s website and social media accounts, and inclusion in weekly
Council Packet GovDelivery notifications.
