HomeMy WebLinkAbout2002-01-14 City Council (7)City of Palo Alto City Manager’s Report TO:HONORABLE CITY COUNCIL FROM:CITY MANAGER DEPARTMENT: CITY MANAGER DATE:JANUARY 14, 2002 CMR: 115:02 SUBJECT:APPROVAL OF APPOINTMENT, DIRECTOR OF PLANNING AND COMMUNITY ENVIRONMENT I am pleased to recommend for your approval the appointment of Stephen Emslie as Director of Planning and Community Environment. Steve comes from the City of San Jose, where he is currently Deputy Director of Planning, Building and Code Enforcement, and is responsible for managing the operations of a 46-member Planning Implementation Division. As Deputy Director, Steve manages current planning activities including environmental review and the land use entitlement process. He has been with the City of San Jose since October 1999, and has had prior experience as Director of Planning/Community Development in the cities of San Leandro, Saratoga, and Rolling Hills Estates. Emslie, a resident of Palo Alto, will head the City’s Planning and Community Environment Department, which includes 57 employees and an annual budget of $7.8 million. Steve was selected from a final group of four candidates, which resulted from a regional search initiated in October. He will begin his new assignment on February 4.
