City of Palo Alto City Manager’s Report TO:HONORABLE CITY COUNCIL ATTENTION:POLICY AND SERVICES COMMITTEE FROM:CITY MANAGER DEPARTMENT: CITY MANAGER DATE:SEPTEMBER 9, 2003 CMR: 405:03 SUBJECT:STAFF ASSIGNMENTS FOLLOW-UP RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends that the Policy and Services Committee review the current Staff Action form used to track follow-up items from City Council meetings and provide feedback as to whether the format provides information that Council Members require. BACKGROUND City Manager Frank Behest instituted a Staff Action Memo as part of the follow-through to each City Council meeting. Staff assignments from the Council or other follow-up items identified by the City Manager are recorded during the meeting. At the following morning’s Agenda Planning meeting, the assignments are reviewed with senior staff and due dates agreed upon. The assignments are reviewed quarterly. DISCUSSION On June 10, 2003, staff provided the City Council, as an informational item, the status report on council assignments as of April 14, 2003. Beginning with fiscal year 2003-04, staff will provide the status update report to the Council on a quarterly basis. The report through August 4, 2003 is attached to this report. RESOURCE IMPACT No additional resource impact is anticipated from providing the Council with quarterly status reports on the Council assignments.
