City Manager’s Re rtHONORABLE CITY COUNCIL
FROM:CITY MANAGER DEPARTMENT: CITY MANAGER
DATE:
SUBJECT:
AUGUST 14, 2003 CMR:398:03
CHANGE IN COUNCIL AND COUNCIL COMMITTEE MEETING
DATES
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Council change its regular meeting date on October 6 to
October 7; cancel its regular meeting of November 3; and schedule a Policy and Services
Committee meeting on November 18 instead of November 11.
DISCUSSION
Staff believes there may be a problem with ensuring that all members of the community
and City Council are able to participate in items scheduled for October 6 and November 3
City Council meetings. October 6, the regularly scheduled Council meeting date, is a
holiday widely observed in the community. November 11, the regularly scheduled
Policy and Services Committee night, falls on Veterans Day, a national holiday.
November 3 is the night before a major election.
In order to ensure full participation in the important issues scheduled for each of these
evenings, staff believes rescheduling as recommended is desirable.
RESOURCE IMPACT
There is no resource impact related to this recommendation.
POLICY IMPLICATIONS
Council has made a practice in the past of respecting both religious and national holidays
if they have the potential to exclude members of the public or the Council from
participation.
