Home My WebLink AboutID-3020 CITY OF PALO ALTO OFFICE OF THE CITY CLERK July 16, 2012 The Honorable City Council Palo Alto, California Interview of Henry Wong for the Planning and Transportation Commission for One Unexpired Term Ending on July 31, 2013 On July 2, 2012 Council was to vote to appoint one unexpired term on the Planning and Transportation Commission. No candidate received the required majority votes for appointment. Council directed the City Clerk to set an interview with Henry Wong, who was unable to interview previously. On July 16, 2012 Council will interview Henry Wong. On July 23, 2012 Council will vote to appoint a candidate from the remaining pool of candidates, listed below. I apologize for not being able to present to you on June 26. But I am doing a much bigger task for the City of Palo Alto. I will be representing the high tech community of Palo Alto to give a KeyNote Speech to the German Government annual VC & Entrepreneur Conference, their High-Tech GrUnderfonds Annual Event. It is a big deal because instead of having their own German speaker at their own show, they are inviting an Asian American from Palo Alto, to tell them about Silicon Valley. Every week I have foreign high tech visitors touring Palo Alto University Ave and buying up houses here in Palo Alto. How do we deal with this surge and growth in our City? If you look at the Real Estate bidding process near Gunn High, what recession? New home owners are bidding $250K more to the list price of a house. Since we understand the growth issues and also feel the pain of our traffic jam, we need to learn from other successful smaller cities (Singapore, Macau & Hongkong) to deal with the happy problem of civilized growth.
