BACKGROUND Last year the City provided more training than anticipated due to the effective impact of entrepreneurial efforts. The City delivered over 600 classes in computer skills, management and supervisory training, professional development, professional certification classes, personal development, e-learning, mandatory safety training, two Management Academies and two Lead Worker Academies. The City contracted with new municipalities to deliver training, incurring additional increases under this contract. DISCUSSION The City contracts with Foothill-DeAnza Business and Industry Institute to provide the majority of the City’s training courses. Foothill-DeAnza Business and Industry Institute was originally selected as a sole source provider because of the shared facilities and cooperative relationship with Foothill Community College. The Institute provides instruction in personal and professional development, management and supervisory skills, as well as computer applications. The City is in the third year of a contract with Foothill-DeAnza Business and Industry Institute. The contract provides that the City pay Foothill $85,000 during the 2002-03 fiscal year for services. Due to the additional training and enterprise activities, the majority of this $85,000 has been spent and an CMR: 213:03 Page 1 of 2 amendment to the contract increasing the amount by $23,000 needs to be implemented in order to pay for the remainder of the 2002-03 scheduled training events. RESOURCE IMPACT Funding for t~s agreement is provided in the 2002-03 Training and Development Budget. POLICY IMPLICATIONS This request does not represent a change to existing City policies. ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW This is not a project under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).
