HomeMy WebLinkAbout2003-02-10 City Council (5)TO:HONORABLE CITY COUNCIL FROM:CITY MANAGER DEPARTMENT: CITY MANAGER DATE:FEBRUARY 10, 2003 CMR: 162:03 4 SUBJECT:RATIFICATION OF APPOINTMENT OF POLICE CHIEF I am please to recommend for your ratification the appointment of Lynne Johnson as Police Chief. Lynne began her law enforcement career in 1975 as a police officer in Palo Alto. She was the seventh female officer hired by the Department. During her 28 years with the Department, she has served as a Field Training Officer, Research Analyst, Watch Commander. She progressed through the ranks of sergeant, lieutenant and was the Department’ s first fen-tale captain and assistant chief, a position she has held for 15 years. She has had responsibility for all areas of the department including patrol, detectives, dispatch, records, animal services, persolmel and training, and traffic. Over the years, Lynne has been the Police Department’s representative on numerous citywide committees and projects. For the last five years, Lynne has chaired the Management!Confidential Employees’ Compensation Con~r~ittee. Lynne received the Chamber of Commerce’s prestigious Athena Award for professional women who serve as role models for other women 2002. Lynne was the first female president of the Santa Clara County Law Enforcement Executive Council in 1995-96. An active member of the Palo Alto community over the years, Lynne was the first female president of the Kiwanis Club of Palo Alto and has been a board member of the club for the past 13 years. She is currently serving in her sixth year on the Board for the YWCA of the MidPeninsula and has also served on the board of the Palo Alto YMCAI She is a member of various professional organizations including California Peace Officers’ Association, International Association of Chiefs of Police, and FBI National Academy Associates. She has served as an assessor for numerous agencies promotional assessments. CMR:162:03 Page 1 0[’2 Lynne received her BA in Psychology from San Jose State University and her Masters in Public Administration from the Consortium of California Colleges and Universities. She is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy. She is a graduate of the Class of 1995 of Leadership MidPeninsula (formerly Leadership Palo Alto).
