report and no Council action is required.
DISCUSSION
During the past six months, staff aggressively sought state, federal and private grant
opportunities to supplement funding for city programs, services and projects. Council
identified this as milestone for its Long Term Finances Top 5 Priority.
City staff identifies grant opportunities through contacts in regional working groups,
professional associations and other governmental agencies, as well as by utilizing a web-
based grant locator program. Additionally, the City works closely with its legislative
advocate to identify grant opportunities. The Ferguson Group in Washington D.C.
provides specialized assistance in expediting and processing grant applications to the City
at the federal and state level. The Ferguson Group also advocates for key City projects
and has secured $500,000 in federal legislative earmarks this year.
TO date, staff has secured approximately $1.4 million through various grant sources.
Attachment A provides detailed information on the grant source, project title and award
amounts of each grant.
