SUBJECT:REQUEST TO MOVE COMPLETION OF THE CONSIDERATION
OF THE FIBER TO THE HOME PROPOSAL FROM AUGUST 2 TO
JULY 19, 2004
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Council approve rescheduling completion of Council
consideration of the Fiber to the Home (FTTH) proposal from August 2 to-July 19, 2004.
BACKGROUND
On April 19, 2004, the Council received a presentation from staff and took public
testimony on the Fiber to the Home proposal. At that time, staff recommended that the
Council continue completion of its consideration of the proposal to August 2, 2004, to
allow the staff to complete its analysis of the financial and legal options available to
implement the proposal. The Council voted to continue the item to August 2 to allow
staff to complete its work.
DISCUSSION
Staff will be able to complete its analysis of the financial and legal issues by the July 19
hearing date. August 2 is the last date at which the Council could vote to place anything
on the November ballot. To ensure that the Council has maximum flexibility in its choice
among possible options, staff is requesting approval to move the hearing of this item up
two weeks before that cut-off date.
RESOURCE IMPACT
This recommendation does not have any resource impact.
POLICY IMPLICATIONS
This recommendation is consistent with existing City policy.
