PROCLAMATION
Expressing Appreciation to Teri Vershel
for Outstanding Public Service
WHEREAS, Teri Vershel has been an active volunteer for the Palo Alto Art Center and the Palo Alto Art
Center Foundation for more than one decade; and
WHEREAS, Teri Vershel has served as an active member of the Palo Alto Art Center's capital campaign to
renovate the Art Center since 2006, working collaboratively with a strong team of staff and volunteers; and
WHEREAS, Teri Vershel has spent more than four years sharing her love of and passion for the Art Center
and its important work with hundreds of community members through the Palo Alto Art Center Foundation's
fundraising efforts; and
WHEREAS, Teri Vershel' s dedicated work was) instrumental in securing numerous community donations
for the Palo Alto Art Center Foundation's capital campaign and in raising awareness about the Art Center and
Foundation amongst the public; and
WHEREAS, Teri Vershel's commitment to the Palo Alto Art Center and Palo Alto Art Center Foundation
has been critical to the success of the Foundation's $3.6 million capital campaign to renovate the Art Center for
the benefit of future generations of Palo Alto residents; and
WHEREAS, Teri Vershel has lived in Palo Alto for more than 24 years, and actively participates in other
community organizations and efforts.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, SIDNEY A. ESPINOSA, Mayor of the City of Palo Alto, on behalf of the City
Council hereby commend the outstanding public service performed by Teri Vershel and record the Council's
appreciation of Teri Vershel's contributions to the City of Palo Alto.

PROCLAMATION
In Honor of the Summer's Excellent Adventure Volunteers
WHEREAS, Summer's Excellent Adventures is a summer camp for
children ages 5-15 with special needs; and
WHEREAS, Summer's Excellent Adventures is often the only camp that a
child with special needs can attend and have the same type of summer camp
experience that typically developing children enjoy; and
WHEREAS, youth volunteers are crucial to the success of this camp;
each day of camp each volunteer is paired with a special needs child to be
their "buddy" for the day; and .
WHEREAS, by playing with the campers in the park, assisting them with
their craft projects, and playing board games with them, the youth
volunteers demonstrate true caring, understanding and compassion; and
WHEREAS, the connection developed between the volunteer and camper
has a profound positive impact on both their lives; and
WHEREAS, during the summer of 2010, 51 youth volunteered over 1,110
hours of service at the camp.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Sidney A. Espinosa, Mayor of the City of Palo
Alto, on behalf of the City Council do hereby proclaim the issuance of a
Community Star Award to the Summer's Excellent Adventure Volunteers.

Expressing Appreciation to Elizabeth Hogan
for Outstanding Public Service
WHEREAS, Elizabeth Hogan has volunteered at Rinconada Park for the past two years beautifying the
flower beds and surrounding landscaping by weeding and pruning once per month; and
WHEREAS, Elizabeth Hogan served as editor for the 2nd and 3rd editions of Parks of Palo Alto, which
chronicles the history and development of Palo Alto's Parks and Open Space; and
WHEREAS, Elizabeth Hogan updated and improved the Palo Alto Parks and Open Space web pages;
providing interesting historical information and ensuring consistency between each individual park web page;
and
WHEREAS, Elizabeth Hogan is a current member and former president of the Friends of Palo Alto Parks,
which has contributed greatly to improving the City's parks and,Open Space areas; and
WHEREAS, Elizabeth Hogan's interest in recreational sports is demonstrated by her active involvement on
the Board of the Palo Alto Lawn Bowling Club and membership in the Palo Alto Women's Golf Association;
and
WHEREAS, Elizabeth Hogan served as the president of the Palo Alto Historical Association in the late 90's;
and
WHEREAS, Elizabeth Hogan is a member of the local Mills College, and volunteers with their yearly
cottage tours; and
WHEREAS, Elizabeth Hogan has been a Palo Alto resident for the past 38 years, and loves all of the
neighborhood parks.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, SIDNEY A. ESPINOSA, Mayor of the City of Palo Alto, on behalf of the City
Council hereby commends the outstanding public service provided by Elizabeth Hogan and records its
appreciation for contribution of Elizabeth Hogan to the City of Palo Alto.

Expressing Appreciation to Becky Beacom
and the
Palo Alto Medical Foundation for Outstanding Public Service
WHEREAS, Becky Beacom has been employed by the Palo Alto Medical Foundation for 30 years and has
held a position of Education Manager for the past 16 years; and
WHEREAS, Becky Beacom has shown great resolve, commitment and leadership for youth well-being in
Palo Altb;ahd .. --..
WHEREAS, Becky Beacom was a founder and leader of the SHARE Committee, fostering a collaboration of
home, school, and community to ensure a sense of wholeness and well-being for our youth, and a clear
understanding of the many avenues towards happiness and success; and
WHEREAS, Becky Beacom's expertise, analysis and public outreach has helped educate the Palo Alto
community about the power of Social Norms, correcting misperceptions about teens and influencing positive and
healthy behavior in adolescents; and -.
WHEREAS, Becky Beacom provides sound guidance, leadership and expertise for Palo Alto's suicide
prevention work and is a member of the Project Safety Net Executive Committee; and
WHEREAS, Becky Beacom's passion for elevating the youth voice by building authentic relationships
between adults and teens has been consistent and unwavering, as seen through her support of Palo Alto Youth
Forums, Developmental Assets and annual Youth Collaborative events; and
WHEREAS, Becky Beacom is a founding member of the Palo Alto Drug and Alcohol Community
Collaborative who's mission is to reduce underage drug and alcohol use and abuse in Palo Alto; and
WHEREAS, we thank and appreciate the Palo Alto Medical Foundation for supporting Becky Beacom and
encouraging her leadership and commitment to youth well-being in Palo Alto.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Sidney A. Espinosa, Mayor of the City of Palo Alto, on behalf of the City Council
hereby commend the outstanding public service provided by Becky Beacom and the Palo Alto Medical
Foundation to the City of Palo Alto.
