SUBJECT: CANCEL OCTOBER 3, OCTOBER 10 AND NOVEMBER 7. CITY
COUNCIL MEETINGS AND OCTOBER 4 FINANCE COMMITTEE MEETING
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City Council cancel the regular meeting of October 3, 2005, and
October 10,2005, November 7,2005 and the Finance Committee meeting of October 4,2005.
BACKGROUND
During the week of October 3, there is a significant holiday honored by a number of the staff and
the community, Rosh Hashanah. In prior years, it was the Council's desire, in order to ensure
that full participation of all staff and Council Members, to cancel the regularly scheduled
Council meeting.
Council meetings are cancelled to honor Columbus Day and, the City Council usually cancels its
regularly scheduled meeting the night before and the night of a local, state and or federal
election.
DISCUSSION
Staff recommends that the regularly scheduled October 3, 2005 Council meeting and the October
4, 2005 regularly scheduled Finance Committee meeting be cancelled. Staff will schedule a
Council meeting on the last Monday of the month, October 24, in lieu of the cancelled meeting.
Due to the October 10 Columbus Day holiday, there will be a special Council meeting on
October 11. The October 11 Policy and Services Committee meeting will be rescheduled at a
future date.
Additionally, staff recommends that the regularly scheduled November 7, 2005 Council meeting
be cancelled.

RESOURCE IMPACT
The staff recommendation does not have any resource impact.
POLICY IMPLICATIONS
This recommendation is consistent with previous Council practice.
