APPROVAL OF A CONTRACT IN THE AMOUNT OF $102,235 WITH
HEWLETT-PACKARD FOR OPERATING SYSTEM MAINTENANCE
AND SUPPORT OF THE CITY’S HEWLETT-PACKARD SERVERS
RECOMMENDATION
This report recommends that Council:
Approve and authorize the Mayor to execute the attached contract with Hewlett-Packard
in the amount of $102,235 to provide operating system maintenance and support for the
City’s Hewlett-Packard (HP) servers running HP/UX and MEP/IX, including the HP3000
and HP9000.
Authorize the City Manager or his designee to approve the renewal for the following two
years provided that the vendor is responsive to the City’s need and Council approves the
funding for this contract.
DISCUSSION
The City is currently using the HP operating systems software on its HP3000 and HP9000
servers. HP is the only provider and software publisher of the HP Operating Systems, MPE/IX
and HP/UX. HP provides software maintenance and support for the operating systems for the HP
servers the City uses. There are no other vendors authorized to provide this maintenance or
support since the operating systems are proprietary.
No competitive selection process was undertaken since HP is the only provider of HP Operating
System Support. The initial contract term will be for one year with the option of extending the
contract for up to two 12-month periods for a maximum of 36 consecutive months.
RESOURCE IMPACT
Funds are included in the Administrative Services Information Technology 2006-2007 Operating
Budget.
