DISCUSSION October 8 is Columbus Day and staff recommends cancelling the regular meeting on that date, anticipating the convenience of the Council and community to use the holiday to extend the weekend. It has been a custom for some years to cancel the regular Council meetings the first week in November when there is a City Council election, to allow the community and Council to participate fully in Election Eve and Election Day activities. Finally, Veterans Day falls on the Monday of the regularly scheduled November 12 Council meeting, staff recommends cancelling the regular Council meeting and instead scheduling a special Counci! meeting on Tuesday, November 13. The meetings scheduled on October 1, October 15, October 22 and October 29; and November 13, November 19 and November 26 will ensure that Council’s work is not impacted by the cancellations.
