MONTHLY ACTIVITY REPORT, PLANNING AND COMMUNITY
ENVIRONMENT
This is an informational report and no Council action is required.
BACKGROUND
The Planning and Community Environment has developed a monthly report to track
activity in each division. The purpose of the Monthly Activity Report is to provide timely
information on the volume of permits, planning applications, building inspections, and
other statistics related to customer service. The report also includes a brief description of
building permits issued for projects in excess of $400,000, as well as a list of all planning
applications submitted each month.
DISCUSSION
The Monthly Activity Report for October 1999 is attached. The first page of the report is
composed of monthly and fiscal year-to-date statistics. The fiscal year-to-date figures
represent cumulative information from July 1st through the end of the current month. For
instance 1,235 people visited the Development Center in the month of October, and a
total of 5,716 people have visited the Development Center for assistance since July 1 st of
1999.
The second page of the report provides information on specific applications and permits.
While always available in .the department, this information has not been provided
regularly to those outside the Planning Department. The address, a brief description, and
the name of the applicant are provided for each planning application submitted in the
current month. Similar information is provided for building permits issued for projects
with a valuation in excess of $400,000.

The Monthly Activity Report will not replace the department’s impact measures. Impact
measures will continue to be tracked and reported on a semi-annual basis. The repoi’t is
intended to supply more detailed information on activity within the department, and will
be distributed monthly to senior City staff, the City Council, and the Planning
Commission.
