EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Staff with experience in turf renovation, equipment operation and irrigation repair have been
hired. Parks staff has met with individual school principals to begin the lines of
communications, and continue to meet at least three times per month. Primary concerns of
’school personnel were centered around the turf being either too wet or too dry, and the lack of
mowing on a regular basis. Since City staff has assumed these duties, dramatic improvements
have occurred in the appearance of the turf areas. Also, a more consistent irrigation program
provides neat, clean and safer turf areas for the students.
Irrigation Systems
Staff has invested a substantial amount Of time to inspect and repair existing irrigation systems.
Many sprinkler heads have been replaced and new valves installed to balance system
performance within existing control systems at Jordan and JLS. Currently, gtaff is planning to
separate and install new underground lines to balance system pressure irregularities at Jordan.
Ball Fields
The baseball diamonds at Jordan and JLS have been completely renovated. Renovation
included complete remeasuring, lowering infield lips and resodding as necessary to make the
fields playable. Both fields were stripped of contaminated infield mix, replaced with new
materials, then regraded. Marked improvements are noticeable. Staff has received many
positive comments from school officials and other user groups.
