SUBJECT:DONATIONS FROM PEERY FOUNDATION AND
ARRILLAGA FOUNDATION
REQUEST
This is an informational report and no Council action is requested.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
In December 1994, the City received two $100,000 donations, from the Peery Foundation
and the Arrillaga Foundation. Council Member Liz Kniss was Mayor at that time and
represented the City of Palo Alto in facilitating the donations. The donations were to be
directed to four specific areas: libraries, the Senior Coordinating Council, the Family
Resource Center, and the homeless and hungry. The allocation to each area was to be equal.
In addition, the donors stated a preference that capital projects be funded in the areas of
libraries, the Senior Coordinating Council and the Family Resource Center, and that the
funds designated for the Senior Coordinating Council not replace funds the City has already
appropriated for this organization.
In July 1995, $50,000 was placed in the Family Resource Center activity in the Child Care
Trust Fund. In August 1995, a check for $50,000 was issued to the Senior Coordinating
Council, to be used for completion of a computer lab, allo~ving older adults in the community
to become facile in the use of technology.
Staff proposes to present the Council with a recommendation for the remaining allocations
of $50,000 for libraries and $50,000 for the homeless and hungry, as part of the 1996-98
budget process.
