Amendment Ordinance
The purpose of this report is to request Council’s approval of an ordinance amending the
budget for fiscal year 1995-96 to reflect the award of a $5,810 matching grant from the
California Arts Council Organizational Support Program to the Arts and Culture
Division’s Visual Arts major activity.
Staff recommends that the City Council adopt the attached Budget Amendment Ordinance
accepting the California Arts Council Grant of $5,810 into the 1995-96 Arts and Culture
Division’s Visual Arts Program budget for the exhibition and education programs at the
Palo Alto Cultural Center.

This grant acceptance does not represent any change to existing policies.
The California Arts Council has awarded previous grants to the Visual Arts Program of
the Palo Alto Cultural Center in support of exhibitions and related arts programming.
These funds have been designated for general operating support in cultural presentations,
publications, and public relations. The aim of the grant funding will be to strengthen the
quality and visibility of the exhibition and education program, and thereby increase the
audience for the Visual Arts.

There is no fiscal impact. The California Arts Council Grant provides matching funds for
exhibitions, equitable artists’ and lecture fees, outreach and public relations materials, and
exhibition and workshop/studio supplies and materials. The funds necessary to match the
grant have been budgeted in the Visual Arts major activity budget for 1995-96.

is not subject to CEQA requirements.

ORDINANCE NO.
ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
AMENDING THE BUDGET FOR THE FISCAL YEAR 1995-96 TO ACCEPT
A GRANT FROM THE CALIFORNIA ARTS COUNCIL FOR THE
DEPARTMENT OF COMITY SERVICES
.WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of Section 12 of Article
III of the Charter of the City of Palo Alto, the Council on June
19, 19~5 did adopt a budget for fisca! year 1995-96; and
WHEREAS, support for the visual arts is an important goa! of
the City of Palo Alto; and
WHEREAS, the Community Services Department has applied for a
matching grant from the California Arts Council for exhibition and
education activities; and
WHEREAS, the California Arts Council awarded a matching grant
in the amount of $5,810 to the Department; and
WHEREAS, the funds necessary to match the grant have been
budgeted in the Arts and Culture functional area budget for 1995-
96; and
WHEREAS, City Council authorization is needed to accept and
expend the grant receipts, and to amend the 1995-96 budget as
hereinafter set forth.
NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does
ORDAIN as follows:
SECTION i. Grant Revenue is increased by the sum of Five
Thousand Eight Hundred Ten Dollars ($5,810) for the receipt of
grant funds.
SECTION 2. The sum of Five Thousand Eight Hundred Ten Dollars
($5,810) is hereby appropriated to non-salary expenses in the Arts
and Culture functional area of the Community Services Department.
SECTION 3. This transaction will have no impact on reserves.
SECTION 4. As specified in Section 2.28.080(a) of the Palo
Alto Municipa! Code, a two-thirds vote of the City Council is
required to adopt this ordinance.
SECTION 5. The Council of the City of Palo Alto hereby finds
that the enactment of this ordinance is not a project under the
California Environmenta! Quality Act and, therefore, no
environ_menta! impact assessment is necessary.
SECTION 5. As provided in Section 2.04.350 of the Palo Alto
Municipa! Code, this ordinance shall become effective upon
adoption.
