For the last four years, City staff has. coordinated with
organizations to celebrate Pollution Prevention Week.
local, regional, and national
Palo Alto City staff actively promotes pollution prevention in the community throughout the
year. The Regional Water Quality Control Plant (RWQCP) has found strong community
support for its pollution prevention programs, which benefit the environment and help the
City comply with its wastewater discharge and storm water runoff permits. For example, in
1998 the RWQCP wil!recognize 92 percent of vehicle service facilities, 100 percent of
pharmacies, and 100 percent of automobile parts stores as Clean Bay Businesses because
they have acted to prevent water pollution. Pollution Prevention Week provides an
opportunity for staff to highlight the importance of the community’s pollution prevention
efforts.
