The Council of the City of Palo Alto met in regular ses-
this date at 8 p.m., with Mayor Thoits presiding. Poll
follows:
Blair, Easterday, Miller, Snyder, Swain, Thoits,
Thomas, Wing.
Bertsc he, Cathcart, Cooley, Jorda' , Peterson, Roller,
Terwilliger.
The minutes of the regular meeting of April 12, 1920,
were read and approved as read.
San Jose Celebration of Ju Fourth
A communication was read from the City Manager of San
Jose asking that a committee be appointed to confer with

Jose committee in regard to .holding a Fourth of July r celebration on in
San Jose. r �r i
On motion of Miller and Swain the Mayor was au t crized to
name such a committee. The Mayor appointed Mr. Wing.
Purchase of Seale 'da terworks Referred
,
A report was received from the Board of :Public Works,
recommending that the City purchase the Seale Waterworks at the
price suggested in the reports of the City Engineer, submitted to
the Council.
On motion of 'Ving and Swain the matter was referred to Com.#4
investigate and report and also to report on the method of finane-
ing such purchase.
Service Station Leases: For Three Years.
A report was received from the Board of Public 'forks,
Crecommending that leases to the Standard Oil Co., and the Shell

On motion of Swain and Miller the recommendation was ap-
proved proved by unanimous vote on roll call. -

A report from the City Engineer was received estimating
of a 4'i cast iron water main on Guinda stree#, be;w;Yen
and Forest avenues at S700.00.
On motion of fling and Easterday the installation of such
main was authorized and the matter of financing the same was referred
to Committee #4 b, unanimous vote on roll call.

Committee #4 recommended that the matter of installing gas
service in East Palo Alto be referred to the Budget committee for
1920-1921.
On motion of Wing and Swain the matter was so referred.

Reports Received.
The reports of the Department of ublic Works and the
Auditor for March and of the Treasurer and Community Center for
April were received and ordered filed.
Claims Allowed..
On motion of Wing and Swain the following claims were
allowed and warrants authorized in payment of the same by unanimous
vote on roll call:

Auto Station Insurance: Discontinued.
In the matter of insurance for the auto bus station, on
motion of Snyder and Blair it was ordered that no insurance be
carried.
Reconsiders Resignation.
Mr. Miller asked an expression as to whether Mr. Swain
would accede to the request of the Council that he withdraw his
resignation as Councilman.
Mr. Swain thanked the Council for its kindly expressions
of appreciation and stated that as his professional duties would
be less than he had anticipated he would be pleased to withdraw
his resignation.
