The Council of the City of Palo Alto met in regular, ses-
sion on this date -at 7:30 p.m.
Mayor Swain being absent the meeting was called to order
by the City Clerk and on motion of Jordan end Terwilliger Council-
man Thoi t,s was made Mayor pro tam.
Roll call as follows:
Present: Bertsche, Blair, Cathi'art , Cooley, Eris terday, Jordan,
Miller, Roller, Snyder, Terwilliger, Thos. is , Thomas.
Absent: Peterson, Swain, Wing.
The minutes of the meeting* of January 12th and 24th,
192°, were read and approved as read.
As to Leases for Pilling Stations: Referred.
A report was receives: from the Board of Public Works,
recommending that in the renewal of the leases to the Shell Co.
and the Standard Oil Company for filling stations the rental be
increased from $25 to $75 per month and that the leases be for
the period of one year.
On motion of Jordan and Miller the clatter was referred
to Committee #1 to report.

A report was received from Committee #1, _~ecommending
that the final report of the Commissioners on the opening of al
alley in Block :.2 be approved and that a resolution of approval
be passed. The report was received and ordered filed.
Report of E:ra¢<,i,neer: East Palo Alto.
There was received from the Board of Public Works a
report of the City Engiheer in the matter of providing public
utilities for East Pali Alto and giving estimates of the cost.
On motion of Jor:lan_ and Cooley the report was received
and referred to Committee 41.
Resolution (Adoptin&_ Alley Reyor : assed.
A resolution, entitled, "Resolution Adopting Report of
the Commissioners in the Matter of opening an Alley in Block 12
of the City of Palo Alto," was read and on ;_;notion. of Cooley, se-
conded by Bertsche, was passed by unanimous vote on roll call.
Ordinance i",Planning. Commission) Re adinz.
An ordinance, entitled °An Ordinance Amending Sections
2 and 3 of ordinance #130 of the City of Palo Alto Relating to
the City Planning Commission,' was introduced, given first read-
ing and referred to Committee #4,
Ordinance .(Zonin&East Palo Alto): Firs Readir _.,
An Ordinance, entitled, "An Ordinance Providing for the
Including of East Palo Alto under the Provisions of the zone or-
dinance #172, of the City of Palo Alto," was introduced, given
first reading and referred to Committee #4.
The City Attorney was requested, 4o report on the status
of the city ordinances as relating to East Palo Alto.
Report on Butler -Controversy.
A communication was read from the City Attorney in the
matter of discontinuing the supply of water to the Butler rand:
and answering a letter from Miss M.A.Butler.
On motion of Terwilliger and Cooley the recommendation
of the City Attorney that Miss Butler be requested to furnish t.le
city with a copy of the agreement she claims exists between her-
self ana the city, was approved.

As to Deed to Lots -11-12, Block .
Mrs.- T .omatt brought up the question as to whether the
city would accept a deed to Lots 11-12, Block 69, said property
to be held in .trust for the family of J. Balfor.
Miller moved that a deed to such property be made to
the City of Palo Alto and that a resolution defining the terms of
such trust be passed on the acceptance of such deed. The motion
was seconded by Cooley and passed.
Reports Received.
The report of the operations of the Department of Public
Works for December and reports of the Treasurer and Community
Center Commission for January were received and ordered filed.
4.
Claim of Georg Casey: Referred.
The chairman of 'Committee #4 presented the matter of
paying the claim of George Casey for constructing sidewalk along
the property of the Federal Construction Company in Block A, said
claim amounting to $218.38.
On motion of Cooley and Bertsche said matter was referred
to Committee #1 to report at the next meeting.
Claims Allowed.
On motion of Jordan and Cooley the following claims were
allowed and warrants authorized in payment of the came:

Request of Board of Education for Zone Chant -es.
A request was received from the Board of Education that
the Council institute proceedings to change from Zone 111 to Zone
z 4 tee easterly half of Block 100 and the nor t :e4 s ee r1y quarter
o, Block 43.
On motion of Cooley and Snyder t e request was referred
to the Planning Corcmission to report.
As to Sapp ing Gas to Mayfield,
A request was received from T. J Pam., er, representing J. G.a. �i�i.� �. N, w �
the Board of Trustees of the Town of Mayfield, that the City of
Palo Alto consider the matter of supplying gas to Mayfield.
Jordan motion of v ordan and Cooley the request was referred
to the Board of Public Works and the City En6ineer.
Community Center Commission Member named:_
