The Council of- the City of Palo Alto met in regular ses-
sion on this date -at 7:30 p.m., with 7ayor Swaim. presiding. ::oil
call as follows:-
Present - Bertsche, Blair, Cathcart, Cooley, Eas to rday., Roller,
Snyder, Swain, Thoits, Thomas,
Absent: Jordan. ,Tiler, Peterson, Terwilliger.
The minutes of • the regular meeting of December 8, 191c,,,
were read and approved as read.
'Butler Communication: Referred.
A coi. Unication from Kiss M...Butler in the matter of
water furnished the Butler ranch was referred to the Board. of
Public Works and the -City Engineer and the City Attorney on mo-
tion of Thoits and Snyder,
Re uest from Co .uni L- Center Commission; Referred.
A request was received from the chairman of the Com-
munity Center Commission that plans be prepared for laying out
athletic grounds and playgrounds on the city's land. On motion
of Wing and Bertsche the request. was referred to the Board of
Public Works and the City Engineer.

- A report was received from the Board of Public Works
recommending, that an appropriation of h500.0C be made to pay the
cost of strengthening the gallery trusses in the Community Center
House, and an appropriation of $8c.oc to nay the cost of maintain-
ing the Hamilton avenue convenience station for the balance of the
fiscal year.
Thoits moved that the appropriations as recommended 1:(!
made from the unexpended balance in the general fund, subject to
the approval of Committee #5. The motion was seconded by Cath-
cart and passed by unanimous vote on roll call.

en second reading and on motion of Wing, seccro:c by Cathcart,
was passed by unanimous vote on roll call.

ordered filed.
Investment of Funds Approved:

As to Embarcadero Road Congestion.,
Councilman Snyder called attention to the need of a side-
wal_t on Embarcadero road along the high school �roun s and of
widening said road from the railroad to the State :: ighway.
On motion of Wing and Snyder the matter was referred to
the Board of Public Works and the City .ngineer to report.
Transfer of Funds Authorized.
On motion of Thoits and Cooley 31,706.81 was ordered
transferred from the Plana:.. g Commission fund d to the genera. fun''
by unanimous vote on roll call.
Adjournment 'to January 24; 1920,
Wing moved that when the Council adjourn it adjourn to
meet in -the City :all on January 24, 1920, at 7:30 p.m. The
Motion was seconded by Cooley and passed.
On motion the Council adjourned.
