The Council of. the City •of Palo Alto met an -this date at 7:3©p.m,. , pursuant to adlournrneut of January 19, 1921, with wayor Cathcart presiding. Roll call as follows Present Bertsche, Blair, Catnc8irt ► Cooley, Easterday, Miller, Snyder, Thoits,' Thomas. Absent: Jordan, Peterson, Roller, Swain, ?erwilliger, :ding.` Protest :(,,,,Better Films) Referred: Mrs. :.. `_ /4 Gray, chairman of the Better Films Committee of, the CivicLeague* presented a protest signed by the representa- tives of- various . Churches and by citizens against the production of films of undesirable : character in the local theatres and asking the Council to suppress .the, presentation: of films of this s character. The; matter was discussed. Prof. H. D. Gray of the Nation- al Board of : Revi:ew. addressing the Council. On motion of Miller ller and ; Bertache the Protest was , referred to Committee #2 and the Board of Public Safety. A ycr libr ar r Betterments. "Mrs. Theodore hoover on behalf of the Civic League made a statement to the effect ,that the Civic League and other organiza- tions were about to start a campaign to raise funds to secure a lot adjoining the present library site and to erect an addition to the library building. She' desired to have the approval of the Council of this movement and ,to be "assured that the Council would later on give support to the project. On motion of Cooley and Thoits the matter was referred to Committee ;#3 As to a Free Market. Mrs. Theodore :.00ver for the Civic League presented the request that the Council permit the use of vacant landon the city hail site for a free, market, which the League desired to have es- tablished. On motion of Thoits and Miller the request was referred to Committee ii 1w;_ Auto Parking: Referred to Works Board.
