The minutes of the meeting of September 14, 192e
were:. read. It was directed that, on page 407 under the neadirg

stricken from the ` minutes, as Mr. Cathcart' s motion referring
the ordinance on the Mayfield one map to Co^mittee moo. . dio. not

Petitions for Street Pavi: 'z
o Three petitions were received signed by property
owners affected., requesting that the Council initiate proceedian
to pave the following streets, said work 'to be done under the
state law providing, for the issuance of ten year bonds to cover
the unpid assessments. Waverley Street betweee University
Avenue and Oregon Avenue, Seale Avenue between Cowper and Bryant
Streets, and. California $venue between Bryant and Alma Streets.
On motion of Wing and Williams, these petitions
were referred to the Board of Public Works.
Contracts for University_
'A letter was read from the Clerk of the Board of
Supervisors of San Mateo County enclosing four copies of the
contract for the bri dge at University Avenue over. San Fran-
ciscuito Creek. A resolution (Resolution No. 4:55) authoriz.n
the Mayor and City Clerk to sign tnis contract was read., and on
motion of 3ertsohe and Duveneck was adopted 'by unanimous vote on
roil call.

the Peninsular :Railway Company, concerning the removal of the car
tracks whs read and ordered, to be filed.

the Peninsular Railway 9ompany enclosing voucher amounting to
$359,e53 for amount due the. City of Palo Alto under franchise
ordinance 94 for year ending August 15, 1925. On motion of
Wing and Lausten, , this voucher was accepted not as full set yl e:en:
but as settlement subject to adjustment of all accounts between
the City of Palo Alto and. the eeninsular P:ailway Company.

A letter was received from tne Health Officer,
requesting that the Eealth lepartment be authorized to take tne
census of ;.the former Town of Mayfield, the work to be done by
tne inspectors of the Health Department in the course of their
inspections which.. Would'"entail no add:Itional expense. On
motion of Zelly and Lausten, Une Health Department was authori zed
to take this census.

Thomas,, this resignation. was accepted with regret and .with
expression of appreciation and thanks for his services.

High Street be widened from Hamilton Avenue to Addison Avenue'.

Planning Commission,. On motion of Thoits and ping, the Board
of Works was i„nstracted to issue no building permits for the
territory affected until final action on this matter is taken.

an error in the assessment of the property of Mr. S. l.. Cooper.
Mr. Cooper also addressed the Council on this matter. This
was referred to Committee No. 4.
A report was received from the Assessor concerning
exemption certificates for property in the Mayfield District
which had been discovered after the assessment roll was approve,
requesting tnat the assessment roll be changed to allow for
these exemptions. On motion of Wing and Thoits, tnis matter
was referred to Committee Lo. 4 and the City Attorney.
A letter was read from the City Assessor concerning
the disappearance of Mr. Knurl jorgensm, Assistant to the
Assessor, and recommending the appointment t of :mar. Frank Cramer
to fill this vacancy. On motion of Thoits and Cathcart tree
action of the City Assessor in this mutter was ratified.

A report was read from Committee .L o. 1. The first

damages for' the opening of m alley in Block 5 was referred to
the Cite' Attorney, Committee No. 5 and the City Auditor, on motion
of Cathcart and W1ng, for ara adjustment of accounts. :.r. Leve,
Attorney for Mr. McClatchie, addressed the Council on this sue,ject.
Committee No. l recommended that the ordinance far
renaming streets in the former Town of : ayfi eld oe adopted.
Said ordinance No. 328 was given second reading, and on motion of
Wing and Bertsche was adopted by unanimous vote on roll call.

Councilman, Cathcart also spoke on tb.is matter. On motion of
Wing -and Bertsch, the recommendation of Con=i.ttee No. .1 that no
action be taken to acquire a right of way tilrougn the land of
the West Coast Military Academy at this time was approved.
