in Blocks 18, 19, 31 and 32 requesting part that pa.. t of lots 8
and 9, Block 18, owned by Mollie A. Howe, be changed to the
second residential district. On motion of Cathcart and Wing,
this petition vows referred to the City Planning Commission.

as prepared by the City Engineer be adopted except that the
second residential district along Cambridge avenue be chanFred

A report was received from the Library Board

at the present time for the establishment of a brunch library

Concerning the recomme7.dation of Committee :No. 2
that the city 'take out policies, the premium amounting to
112.„50.a year, for compensation insLr9nce for 25 firemen
including the volunteer firemen, supplementing the state
compensation insux nc e already carried,- on motion of Wing the
Board., Safety was au on zed to insure the volunteer, firemen,
the money required to be taken from the Fire Department
incid.ental f'C:na provided that '? written statement is received_
from . the State Compensation Insurance Fund stating t at the
volunteer' firemen receive no compensation in case of :injury
except hoe p tal and doctor s bills.

On motion of Cathcart end Tncits, the recommenda-
tion of Committee No. 2 that the university ma.n ag erren.t be s .e w
to take out public liability insurance for the hospital e.n.. to
provide proper sire escapes for the hospital building was
approved by unanimous vot e on roil call.
Lette from City Attorney of -Long Beach
The City Attorney read a telegram and letter
from Bruce Mason, City Attorney of Long Beach, concerning
Supreme .Court.: cases attacking municipal charter amendments
voted anal. ratified duri4g session of the Legislature. On
motion of Wig and Kelly, the City Attorney was authorized. to
go.to Los '.Angeles, if necessary concerning this matter.
Concerning Improvement of Alma Street
Concerning the report of Co:xcittee No. 1
approving the recommendation of the Planning Commission in
regard to*' ;e 3mprovement of lama Street from Embarcadero Road
to Oregon Avenue, Councilman Wing moved that the City Attorney
be instructed.to draw up an ordinance covering this matter.
This motion was seconded by Bertsc~l,e, but was later withdrawn
until a report has been received from the Board of Works.

A claim was presented by Mr. Pat Reilly for
$7.70, v ich mum he claims to be over and above the right
amount of taxes on his property at 444 Florence Street, stating
that his house was built in 1895 instead of 1908, as shown on
the retard& of the . City Assessor. The City Assessor reporter.
that Mr.. Reilly did not examine the assessment roll during the
month ofJuly and did not appear before the Equalization Board.
On motion of Wing, the matter was laid on the table, and. Mr.
Reilly was informed that his Claim could not be allowed,and the
;mistake could not be corrected until next year.
