The Council of the City of Palo Alto met on this date at 8 p. m.„ pursuant to adjournment of July 20, 1925, with Acting Mayor Hobart ,presiding. Roll call as follows Present: Bert8ehe, Bonn, Cathcart, Dveneck, Easterday, Hobart, ' &elly, Thoits, Williams, Ping.: Absent: Cooley, Cottrell, Jordan, Lausten, Thomas Special Order of ` the Day The Acting Mayor announced that the Clerk had reported that no objections had been received against the work proposed under Resolntion of Intention 80. 426. The Clerk furnished a certificate to that effect. By unanimous vote on roll call, Resolution No. 429 ordering the work under Resolution of Intention Rol426 was adopted. Report of C omni ttee ` No . 4 A report from Committee No. 4 was read, and in compliance with this report, by unanimous vote on roll call, the Council directed that the following additional transfers be made to Bond kunds to take care of bond interest and redemption to June 30, 1926: To Water .Bonds Light Bonds Gas Bonds Destructor Bonds aospital.Bonds 41,689.74 16,537.32 3.87 9.76 1.393.30 419,633.99 The Council also directed that 43, 866.67 be transferred to Water :Bonds., Mayfield District, to pay bond interest and redemption to June 30, 1926. Stoutemeyer, had objected, and the City Attorner recommended that the buyer's deposit cheek of 4600.00 be returned and the sale cancelled. By unanimous vote on roll call, the Council directed that the City Attorneyts recommendation be approved and that the check be returned. To Prepare .p of Mayfi el d The Council directed that the Board of Work's prepare a map of Mayfield showing the perk areas in that district, in order that the Council might have intimate knowledge of this matter. Pla: >to be at Half -Mast July 31st It was directed that on Friday, ,July_ 31st, the national flag hoisted in the city of Palo Alto be half -masted as a mark of respect to the farmer Secretary of State, William 4enning Bryan. ConcerniAK Santa Barbara Relief Fund Mr. Bay Smith, Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce, addressed the Council en the subject of' the Santa Barbara relief' rind and requested. the Acting Mayor to appoint a citizens' committee to take charge of this for Palo Alto, stating that the relief fund quota desired from Palo Alto for Santa Barbara is $2800.00. The minutes. of t: a meetings of July 13,, 20 and 29, 1925, were read. The minutes of July 13, 1925 were corrected to show that Miss Margaret Girdner was appointed to the Community Center Commission to fill out the unexpired term of W. H. Kelly. Easterday, the bide were referred to the Board of Works and City Engineer for tabulation, investigation and report. Letter :.from Ralph W. Madison A letter from Balph W. Madison concerning old houses and shacks in the city was referred to the Board bf Public Safety. Letter from Chamber of Commerce A letter was read from the Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce : recommending an amendment to the building code for security against' earthquakes. This matter was referred to the City 'Engineer and Board of Public Works, with Colonel Wing being asked to act in conjunction with them. Letter roe: ter. rl awe A letter from E. A. Concerning Alley Block 21 A 'letter concerning assessments in connection with the opening -of an alley in Block 21, sinned by Alfred J. Engle, Laur°idsen: Bros. and Drs. E. L. Hyde, was read. Mr. Leve addressed the Council concerning this matter. On motion of Cathcart and Hobart, this matter was referred to the City Attorney and Committee No. 1. Ar nUal'?eport of Community Center The: annual report of the executive committee of the Community Center Commission for the fiscal year ending June 30, i25, was received and placed on file. Purchase of field Maps: Approved. A. report: was received from the Board of Public Works approving- the purchase of the Mayfield maps from Mr. 6. Moser for 4876.95. On motion of Wing and. Easterday, this recommenda- tionwas adopted and the purchase of the maps authorized by unanimous vote on roll call. Report of Board of Safety A report from the Board of Public Safety concerning the matter " of fire insurance for all city property and compensation insurance for city employees was read and, on motion of Thoits and Bertsche, was referred to Committee No., 2 for investigation ' and report. Report of Committee No. 5 A reportwas; received from Committee No. 5 recommending the appointment. of Robinson, Nowell and Company as.: Auditors for the fiscalyear ending June 30, 1926. The report vas'-accompan.i:ed. ,by a letter from Robinson, Nowell and Company offering to- take' a complete aralit of the books for the fiscal Year 1925.1926 for the sum of 41000.00.
