The Council of the City of Palo Alto met in regular:
session on this date at 8 P:o: M., with Mayor Hobart presiding.:
Roil call as follows:
Present:
Bertsche, Cooley, Duveneek, 2asterday, Hobart,
welly, Lausten Tho&ts, Thomas, 'Wood.
Bonn, Cathcart, Cottrell, Jordan, rang.
The minutes of the meeting: of June 14, 21 and 28,
1926, and July 1, 1926 were read. The 3 as t paragraph under
heading of "Report of Planning Commissions", on page 480, was
corrected to read, "On motion of Thoits and 3onn., the Board of
Works was requested to furnish a report on the status of each
widening and alley opening procedure twat is now unfinisned".
rlitn this correction, the minutes were approved.
Hearing (Zone Extensions)
It was announced that this was the time set for
the hearing on the following recommendations of the Planning
Commission:
(a) That. the Commercial zone on Lytton Avenue be
extended to include that portion of the south-
westerly nalf of Block 20 not now included in.
the commercial zone.
(b) That both sides of Bryant Street from the
present third residential district to C'ranning
Avenue, and from tre li.g t industrial zone to
and including one tier of lots on the north-
easterly side of Bryant Street, including the
northwesterly side of Channi„g Avenue from- the
industrial zone, be included in the third
residential zone.
The Clerk reported that the notice of hearing on
ttis matter had been published tnree times in ac:cordsence with
laic. There were no property owners present who desired to
address the .Council on. tt_i s matter.

On motion of Xeliy and Duveneck, tne City Attorney
was directed to prepare ordinances covering the above
recommendations of the Planning Commission.
Letter from Menlo P&rk. Fire Commis ienere
A letter was received from tne Secretary of tne
Board of Fire Commissioners of Menlo Park expressing their
appreciation for the courtesy extended by the Palo Alto Fire
Department in resuondeng to a call in North Palo Alto. The
Clerk was directed to acknowledge the letter, which was placed
on file.

Letters were received from A. L. Uhler and Paul :►:.�=.
Merner concerning the delinquent taxes on .Lots 7 and 8, Block
0, and ,lots 1 to 8, Block P, Southgate, assessed to A. L. Uhler,
and requesting the Council to remit the penalty of 50 per cent
which has been added to the taxes since the property was sold to
the city. : Mr., Merner addressed the Council on this matter,
On motion of Zelly aa:td Cooley, it was directed that the amount of
taxes and penalties be paid. in fall and that the auditor be
instructed to, draw a warrant for the amount of the 50 per cent
penal, ty.

A letter was received from ors. J. W. Bingham
tendering her resignation as a member of the Advisory Board on
Commercial Amusements. On motion ot Bertscne and Cooley, the
resignation was accepted. with regret, and the Clerk was directed
to send a letter of appreciation tor .her services.

.A report was received from the City Clerk condernir
the appointment of trustees of the !atadero Mosquito Abatement
District, ouoting the law on the matter, which provides • that one
trustee is to be apps:°rated from esc'r mun.icipalit.y in the district
by the governing board of said municipality, On motion of
Cooley and Mrs. Thomas, Colonel Vir:. X. Jones was appointed
Trustee to represent the City of Pea o Alto, for term ez dime
January 2, 1928.
Payment of 1nsa.r' race Premiur.-
On motion of Zelly and �.ertsche, it was directed
that the initial premium of .2834.78 be paid to the State
Compensation Insurance ?mod.
A report was received from. Cor'ei ttee No. 1 recommend-
ing that the matter of widening California Avenue be deferred
until a decision on the setback q:ae s ti o n, now cefore the Supreme
Court and soon to be rendered, has been received. On motion of
Thoits and. Cooley, all proceedings in connection witn the
widening of California Avenue and J. Camino Real were deferred.
Until the next regular meeting.
Referring to the ordinance on movi rg bi dings,
Committee tic. 1 recommended that this ordinance be not adontea
as this matter is tally covered by Sections 187,188 and. 189 of
the Building Code. On motion. of Easterdeee and Ber, tsche, this
matter was referred back to Coment tee No. 1, in order to _- ve
the South. Palo Alto Residents Association and North'End
Residents Association, who requestedthe adoption of this
ordinance, an opportunity to be heard.

ipointments to Communit Center
The Mayor nominated lass 1izabeth Weak as a member
of the CommunityCenter Commission for the term ending June 30,
1929, to fill the vacancy caused by the expiration of the term
of Mrs. Duveneck. On motion of Mrs. Duveneck and Mrs. Thomas
this nomination was confirmed.
- Mrs. 2earl Shreve, who had been previously ep,pointed •
to fill out an unexpired term, was nominated by the 'mayor for
term ending June 30, 1929. On motion of Easterday and Bertscxe,
this appointment was confirmed.
Mrs. Duveneck was nominated by the Mayor as a. member -
of the Community Center Commission representing the Council for
one year, and on motion of Thoits and Bertsche, this nomination ,
was confirmed.
Deputy Treasurer Appointed
On motion of Thoits and Mrs. Thomas, Mr. E. F.
Congdon, City Treasurer, was granted a leave of absence until
August 10, 1926, and Louis Olsen was appointed Deputy City
Treasurer for that period.
Delegates Appointed to Convention
On motion of Thoits and Cooley, Mayor, City
Engineer, City Attorney, City Clerk, Auditor, Health Officer
and Dairy Inspector were appointed delegates to the convention
of the League of California Municipalities and the Dairy
Inspectors' Convention to be held in Yosemite Valley from August
16 to 20, 1926.
Concerning Bus Service
Mrs. Thomas brought up the question of the bus
service and asked if anything definite was known as to the
continuation of the service after September 1st. The City
Engineer reported that ne expected to receive word from the
=eninsular Railway Company on this matter by the next meeting.
On motion the Council adjourned.
