The Council of the City of Palo Alto met in special
,session on this date at. 8 p. :n., pursuant to the following call
of the Mayor:
"As Mayor of the City of Palo Alto, 1 hereb} cay,l
-a •special meeting of the Council of -the- Cite of
Palo Alto, to convene at the Council, Chamber in
the City Hall of Palo Alto, at the hour.df 8 p.m.
Tuesday, October 16, 1928, for the purpose of
receiving the report of the Special Hospital -
Committee".
• Mayory Hoge presided, and roll call was as follow:
Present: extsohe, Cathcart, Christensen, Cottrell, =loge,
Kelly, Lausten, Thoi.ts, ` hisier. , .:ood, 'Johnson.

The. Mayor- spoke a few words of welcome to• Mr.
Johnson, newl y elected council member. Mr. Johnson .responded •
and stated -that -he would be glad to coo ^orate with the other
council members in every way rxe could and would give- as much of
his time as was necessary for the duties required of him As
councilman.

University.,•ani had received from the University an offer for ».

Convalescent Home. A letter from Dr. Ray Lyman Wilbur,
eresicent•of Stanford University, outlining the offer of the
University, was .presented and red by the Clerk. The letter
quoted herewith:

"Gentlemen:
Subject to final approval by the Boare. of
Trustees,- the University hereby offers to the City of ?e,io
Alto a 99 -year lease on a 1O -acre tract of land, Ors ...'.�C

any and all gifts or endowment which may be p;i ven to •
said hospital project, with provision by the donors for
such •transfer, and tha., funds for the endowment and
construction of said hospital shall be solicited upon
this basis.
"It is farther understood that the University Is
prepared to enter into a contract nor the operation of
said hospital upon terms similar to those contained in
the present contract between the City and the University
for the management of the Palo Alto Hospital.
"This letter supersedes my letter to Dr. R. V. Lee,
under date of September 26, 1928.

Dr. Wood stated that the +aedica? Society of Palo Alto
had unanimously agreed that the site proposed by the University • was

Dr. Lee, s member of the hospital committee, came in
at this time, and expressed his approval of the action of the

The special hospital committee of the Council Was
authorized to continue its work and to cooperate with the commi tee
of the Chamber of Co erce in carrying on the camp,n to solicit
funds for the proposed hospital.
