The Council of the City of Palo Alto met in special ,session on this date at. 8 p. :n., pursuant to the following call of the Mayor: "As Mayor of the City of Palo Alto, 1 hereb} cay,l -a •special meeting of the Council of -the- Cite of Palo Alto, to convene at the Council, Chamber in the City Hall of Palo Alto, at the hour.df 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 16, 1928, for the purpose of receiving the report of the Special Hospital - Committee". • Mayory Hoge presided, and roll call was as follow: Present: extsohe, Cathcart, Christensen, Cottrell, =loge, Kelly, Lausten, Thoi.ts, ` hisier. , .:ood, 'Johnson. =absent; Hobart, Jordan, Thomas, ring. The. Mayor- spoke a few words of welcome to• Mr. Johnson, newl y elected council member. Roth; representing the Board of Trustees of Stanfc: University.,•ani had received from the University an offer for ». site for..:zhe•proposed hospital in the general vicinity of the: Convalescent Home. A letter from Dr. Ray Lyman Wilbur, eresicent•of Stanford University, outlining the offer of the University, was .presented and red by the Clerk. The letter quoted herewith: '' amity council, City of Palo Alto. "It is farther understood that the University Is prepared to enter into a contract nor the operation of said hospital upon terms similar to those contained in the present contract between the City and the University for the management of the Palo Alto Hospital. "This letter supersedes my letter to Dr. R. V. Dr. Wood stated that the +aedica? Society of Palo Alto had unanimously agreed that the site proposed by the University • was e most suitable location -for a Cn motion of Cottrell and 'rood, the letter of Dr. ..ilbur transmitting the offer of_ a site on university land for the' ef,ection of a hospital was accepted by the Council of the City .of Palo Alto by unanimous vote on roll call. Dr. Lee, s member of the hospital committee, came in at this time, and expressed his approval of the action of the On motion of Cathcart and Whisler, the City Attorney ss instructed to cooperate with Comptroller ,.:C, th in the formulation a pledge card to Lbe used by the Chamber of Co=erce, and in the eparati.on of any other legal documents necessary in { this matter. The ;uestion of the legality of building a hospital ith bond funds on land .not owned by the city but leased from the University was discussed. Mr-. Roth. stated that itwould poss ,o have the road. leading to. the hospital put into thecityelimitso,e necessary in order to -make the bond issue legal. The City y • Attorney expressed the opinion that the erection of this hospital with bond funds on leased land would be legal under the provi of the charter of sin--s the City of Palo Alto. it was pointer out r thin connection that the reservoir built by the city on land leased from Stanford University was constructed with bond funds The special hospital committee of the Council Was authorized to continue its work and to cooperate with the commi tee of the Chamber of Co erce in carrying on the camp,n to solicit funds for the proposed hospital. On motion the Council adjourned.
