Roll call as follows:. resent: Ber :P t;che, Bonn, Cathcart, Christensen, Cottrell, Hobart, Hoge, Kelly, Lausten, Thoits, Wing, Wood. Absent sordan,, Whirler, Thomas. It was reported that the minutes of the. meetings of April 9 and April 14, 1928, had been sent to esch.member. On motion of Hoge and Cottrell, the minutes of said meetings were approved. Bids on P aving Received It was announced that the special order of the day was the opening;: of bids for the paving of University Avenue between -Middlefield -Road and Hale Street. Bids were received on this work from Peninsula Paving Company, W. J. Taylor, Stanley Construction Company, Weetern Paving Company and the Board cf Public Works of the City of Palo Alto. On motion of hoits and Wing, these bids were referred to the City Engineer for tabulation and report. This was also the time for opening bids op paving portions of Parkinson :Avenue and Seneca Street. Bids on this work were received. from.Western Paving Company, Stanley. Construction Company and the Board of Public Works of the City of Palo Alto.. On motion' of Thoits and giving, the bids were referred. to. the City En iri.eer;� for ' •tabulation and report. Change.. of Setback Lines It was , announced that this was the time set: for a continuation of the hearing on . the recommendation of they Planning Commission to change setback .lines on portions of California Avenue,, Santa Ynez Avenue and Santa Rita Avenue. There was no one present Who,wished to be heard on this matter, and the hearing was dosed. Ordinance No. 418, changing said setback lines, was given second reading, and on motion of Cottrell and Kelly, was passed by unanimous -vote on roll call. As to Changing Name of Santa Ynez Ave. The. matter of changing the nave of Santa Yriez Avenue, in order to avoid confusion with a street of the same name on the Stanford campus, was referred to the City Planning Commis -sign. After discussion, the ordinance,together with the letters of protest, was referred to Committee No. 2. Reeolatio.n on Loading Zones A report was received from. the Board of Safety recommendingthat tie Council approve a resolution providing for the establishment of loading zones on University Avenue. Alley A report from the Board of Safety recommending the adoption of .an ordinance making the alley in the:.northeas:terly half of Block 12 where the new Professional Building is located a two-way ;alley:..instead of one-way alley provided there is no parking- allowed< in 'this alley was referred to Committee No. 2. Report on Water Filter Plant A . report was received from, the Board of Works approving the report of .the City Engineer and Prof. Reynolds on a Water Filter ,Plant.'for' the municipal swimming pool, and recommending that the, necessary funds ` be appropriated for this purpose. This report' was explained by the City Engineer. On motion of Wing and Bonn, the 'ratter. was referred to Committee No. 4 for consideration in next year t s budget. As to Widenin ; Hamilton Ave. A- r eport. was submitted by the Board of Works approving the plan of the;; City Engineer for the widening of Hamilton avenue in front ' of ; the new Professional Building, the estimated total cost being 7'2:8..66,; and recommending that this widening, be done on condition that the `City be furnished with a deed for the lard to be .taken,,: and also ,recommending that the City pay x;1'75.00 toward the :expense of this widening. On motion of Wing and :Hoge, this matter was referred to Committees No. 1 and No. 4. Later, after further discussion, on motion of icing an. Report of Mr. Mott A report was received from the Board of ,Works transmitting to the Council a report from A. G. Mott, Chief r-;ngineer of. the• Railroad Commission, on estimates of expenses for preparing. inventory and appraisal of the Pacific Gas and Electric Company's properties in Mayfield. This matter was laid over until May 21st, with the understanding that the City Engineer make an effort to come to an agreement with the engineers of the Pacific Gas and Electric Companyeas to its physical properties in Mayfield. ;Setback Cha'i'ges Recommended , R.ec.ommendations were received fromethe City Planning Commission for changes in setback lines on . certain lots in .Blocks, -1, 2 and 3,. ,:Seale Subdivision No. 7.
