Palo Alto, 1 hereby call a special meeting of the Council of the City of Palo Alto, ,,td eggnveze at the council chamber in the City,Hall' of Palo Alto, at the hour of x.;30 P. M., Tuesday, Oetober, : 22, 1929,fer the purpose 5f conferr- ing with the officials of the Interurban Railway Company upon the matter of bus service from the ; :hayfield Depot to the High School." Mayor Christensen .preside;d and roll call was as Present: Miss Baugh, Bertsone, Cathcart, Christensen, Hobart, Reynolds, Thoi ts, Ear/ Thomas. Absent: Johnson, Kelly, Lausten, Mosher, Mrs, Margaret Thomas, oihisler, Wood. The Mayor stated, that this meeting; was called for the purpose • of discussing the question of transportation for high school students. from Los Altos and the Purissima District, who : use the electric cars and, since the abandonment of service from ::ayfield Junction to Palo Alto, have no ":nears of transportation. from the Mayfield depot to the High School. Mr. IN. H. Nichols, principal of the High School, and Mr. Shoup, representing the Peninsular Railway Company, were present and discussed the problem with the :Council. Various -suggestions were made as to change of routes . of the bus lines, the possibility of transfer to Southern Pacific trains from the electric cars, the matter of: the High School `purchasing a. bus to be used for transportation .of students from the Los Altos district, and the difficulties ,resented by these ;various plans were considered. Mr. Nichols" stated that the problem had been solved ea:nnorarily by the use of a bus ` of the Peninsula Fanid Transit Company, which ismeeting the students at the Mayfield depot at 8 a=•clock in themorning, taking them to the High School, nd.. transporting them from the High School to the depot at 3 o a clods in the afternoon. Attention was called to the motion passed by the City Dos cil on August 12th referring the matter of securing bus service . for Mayfield .,to the Board of wdorks to take up with the Peninsular Railway Company. After a long discussion, the matter eis left in the hands of the Board of +arks to work out a solution of the problem with the Peninsular Railway Company.
