with Mayor Christensen presiding. Roll call as foilows•-

Resolutions :Relating to Southern Pacific and Plaza
•
It was announced that the special order of the day
was consideration of'"" the report of the Board of Works and
Plaza Com:nittee.upon their conference with the Southern Pacific
authorities on questions,concerning the Plaza improvement.

report on this conference with engineers of the Southern Pacific
and also on a conversation he had. with Mr. Burckhalter, General
Manager of the Southern Pacific.
A letter was read from Mr. Burckhalter on this matter,
confirming his statez ent as to certain things the Southern
Pacific agrees to do" in "return for their being relieved of paying
the assessments underResolution of Intention No. 769 for the
improvement: of Un verslty Avenue; these proposals relating to
paving. certain" parts."of the; station .mounds with oil rna;cadam,
planting an area. of 7500 square feet with lawn and shrubs,
removing a certain fence, removing the present spur track crossing
university, Avenue uvoxi""conditi;on;,that a permit is .given toy:
construct"another track" in a different location, relocating gates
and gate house, and deed certain land to the City along the night
of way.
Resolution Igo ,, 819, relating to said propesalsHof the
Southern .Pacific " Company, and agreeing to cancel the assessments
against said company for the improvement of University Avenue
upon ti..e fulfillment of said proposals, was read, and' on motion
of Thoits and Be.rtsche, was adopted by unanimous vote on roll
call, the resolution as prepared having been amended in Item (2)
by changing the words "Park Superintendent" to "City Engineer".
Councilman Wood came at this time, 8:15 p. m and
was present during the rest of the :.meeting.
Resolution. No . ; 820, granting to the Southern Pacifica
Company a permit for the construction, maintenance and operation
of a railroad track across University •+venue, was read, and on
motion of Johnson and; Thonas, Was adopted by unani- oua vote on
roli ca11.
On motion -of Pro part and Mrs. Thomas, , the Council
passed a resolution consenting" to an application of the Southern
Pacific Company before' the railroad commission for the
construction Jf a` spur; track across University Avenue, provided
the present "s"pura "track, known as the "circus track", is .removed.
Resolution No. 821 accepting a deed frog:, the Southern
Pacific Company "granting an easement to the City of Palo Alto
for 'a grade crossing at University Avenue, was read, and on motion
of Tnoita and Johnson.," ;was passed by unanimous vote on roll , call.

Resolution Accepting Lots
Resolution No. 822, accepting a deed covering
certain lots in Blocks 60 and 61, Seale Addition, was read, and
on motion of Kelly and Thomas, was adopted by unanimous vote on
xo],l-call.
Communication on Grade Cross;ing Conference
AA communicat.on from the City Clerk relating to
the mass meeting held at the Community House in Palo Alto on
October'';16th: of the Peninsula Grade Crossing Conference was
read "_ and placed on -file.
Re.nr�rt of-�osp�tal Ct� ittee
Mr. 0.. -F. Campbell, chairman of the .oint Hospital
Committee, composed of the Board of Works and Special Hospital
CoMmittee.; made a verbal report upon plans for the new hospital,
stating that the architects had been to Palo Alto several times
do consult with the -ci;ty . engineer, doctors and hospital
superintendent, that they had surveyed the ground and had
made. blueprints of .proposed plans, and that progress was being
made and plans, would be ready shortly for presentation to the
Council
ConGarni ayf ield Parks
Councilman wood brought up the matter of the park
land opposite the, Mayfield depot,' stating that residents of
ldiayfield 'and ,; South Palo Alto were anxious to nave this area
parked and planted. with trees. On motion of Hobart and
Cathcart, this matter was referred to the City Planning
Commission with the revaest for a plan for planting trees and
parking this land.
On motion, the Council adjourned.
