As to Rezoning in Blocks 24 and. 26 This was the time fcr s continuation of the hearing on the question of rezoning those portions of Blocks 24 and 26 now in first residential zone to second residential. A report was received frors Committee No. 1, to vyh Ich this matter had been preferred, recommending that .the ord.inance,providing for the rezoning of these portions of Blocks 24 and 26 from first to second residential, be adopted Letters .of protest against the proposed rezoning were received from Ruth ,r E. and. Otis D. Small, Frances A. Kasson anc Irene R. Valentine, Margaret E. 3argar anu Lois Harcourt. A number .of property owners interested it this matter :were .present erid addressed the Council. I t appeared that those protesting against the proposed `rezoning had no serious objection to two-family dwellings, but did object to four -family ,dwellings which yvould be permitted in the second residential. The matter was discussed at length, and the suggestion was made that the zoning ordinance might be modified in such a way as, to permit dwellings of not :more than two families' in the second residential distri'ct, or to establish a certain district in which two-family residences might be built. On notion of Thoits and ,Thomas, the question of modifying the zoning ordinance in reference to the second residential zone was referred to the City Planning Commission, and the hearing on the matter: of rezoning portions of Blocks 24 and 26 was continued to the meeting or: August 26, 1929, Hearing on Extension of Business Zone "''. "It was announced that this was also the time for a hearing zupon the recommendation of the City Planning Commission 'to extend the commercial zone on University Avenue from Cowper Street to Webster Street, with boundary limes through the center of Blocks 37 and 38. A written protest against such extension of the commercial zone was received from Anna R. Sheldon and 34 ` others. Mr. Avery Howe,: attorney, representing the signers' of this petition addressed the :Council on this matter. A communication was read from Dr. Harry B. <Reynolds objecting to the proposed' extension of the business. zone. A letter in favor of the proposed rezoning was received, from Dr. A. B. Mayhew. Mr. R. Beal, R. cal., Mr. F. L. Wsdom, Miss Florins : Ferne, and others, addressed the Council, f speaking in favor of extending the commercial zone on University 1 Avenue. •The; ordinance to rezone portions of Blocks 37 and 38 to the Commercial: Zone was ready- and a motion was made by Bertsc' e and T ornas toy `>adopt the ordinance.
