The Council of the .City of Palo Alto net on this date
at 8 p. m. The meeting, was 'c=a1led to order ,by the City Clerk,
who called for. no: inat ons - for Mayor :pro ter.;. On motion of
Kelly and Whi.s1er, : Council aan <Bertsche was elected Mayor pro tem.

Election of: `syor
The'Council proceeded to the election of a'. Mayor for
the fiscal year 1929 1930. . V ood. and Johnson were appointed
tellers. On the first ballot Christensen received 5 votes,
Ratheart 3 votes, Thlsler 3,`:vo..tes, and Hobart, Mrs,. Thomas and
Ber.tsche 1 vote each. On..the `second ballot Christensen -received
9 votes and Cathcart .5 -vote . Mr. Christensen_ having' received a
majority' of the vo .s vas:.dec:::fired elected Mayor and took the
chair, thanking the -Council for, the honor of the election.

The 1ba1,lot taken for' appointment of City Attorney
resulted in 1.3 .votes for 1. E.'"..Malcolm and 1 vote for L. T. David.

The ballot for .the office of Police Judge resultedas
follows: Mahn E..', Springer 8 votes, and E. D. Lakin 6 votes. Mr.
prib:gerhaving; received a majority of the votes was declared
elected.

of a member of the, Board of. Public Works, vice L. B. ;Reynolds
whose -. tern expired oxi ::June : 30, 1929. Prof. Reynolds was
unanimously re-elected.
A ballot was taken' for member of the Board of Public
Safety., to take the place of Mrs. J. B. Thomas whose term
expired on June 30;..1929. _Mrs.. Thomas received a unanimous vote
for reelection.
The ballot taken for appointment of a member to the
Library Board resulted in 12 votes for. Mrs. Guido Marx and 1 vote
for; s. Cottrell,` and' Mrs. Ma-rx was declared re-elected,, her term
having expired on June 30, 1929.
The City' Clerk read a message from Mrs. Marx,
which stated that x;r af. ° Seward, a member of the Library Board is
out of the ,city for''three months and Mr. W. C. Thosts, chairrman.
of the Board, is away for three weeks, and suggested that a
temporary member be appointed to take the place of Prof. Seward
in order that, there might be a quorum present at the meetings of
the Library Board. ; . ' On motion of Mood and orchisler, Mr. Guy C.
Miller 'was appointed.a temporary member of the Librsr y _Board
during the abs'ence of Prof. Seward.
On motion of Hobart and Johnson, Mr. M. H. are
was ;appointed a temporary member of the Board of Public Works
during ,the absence of :prof. L. B. -Reynolds.
Concerning: Appointments to Commissions
A letter was received from the chairman of the
Executive Committee' of the Community Center Commission submitting
certain names for consideration as members of the Community
Center Commission, to take the places of the three members whose
terms.expired on June 30, 1929.
The Mayor stated that he would defer the
appointment of members,. to the Community Center Commission, and
also members an the Advisory,3oard on Commercial Amusements
until the next meeting of the Council.
Assessment Rolls Submitted
A report was received from the City Assessor
submitting the assessment rolls: for the fiscal year 1929-30,
together with block: . books and maps. On motion of 'd'ti'his 1er and
Kelly, the ;City Clerk was directed to publish a notice that the
assessment rolls ' will be open to the inspection of the public,
and that the Council will meetas a Board of Equalization on
Monday., August 5, 1929, at 10 a. m. in the: City Hall.

7125.00. A bill vas also submitted for $4.00 from the Sheriff
of Santa Clara County for services. This matter was referred .to
