le Bond Election for Hospital Called
It: was announced that the special order of the day
was the cansid.eration of an ordinance calling an election for the
purpose ofvoting: upon the proposition to incur a bonded indebted-
ness .of 250,0OO for the construction of a:.ho: pital building for
the City of Palo- Alto. 'his ordinance w;:hs read by the City
Attorney.

Mr. F. A. Maycumber and Mr. W. L. Peet, representing
the South Palo A1to Residents .Association, addressed the Council
on this matter, stating ;that the association they represented is
in favor of the hospital bonds and willing to assist in. the
ca.mnaigi out they feel that`, the bonds may not carry unless the
voters are given full.. inormation, in connection with the proposed
bond issue and all .voters urged to vote at the election.
.uestions were raised by Mr. Peet in regard to the financial set-up
with particular reference to the ratter of pledges, value- of
equipment and amount to be received from sale of present hospital
site. Councilman Tho ts, `chairrna.n of the special hospital
committee, and Mr. E. .5. Erwin, auditor of Stanford University,
spoke 'in answer to 'the -questions presented by Mr. Peet and gave
information concerning : the value,of the equipment in the present
hospital which `can be `used ir. the .new hospital, the cost 'of
operation,,of the proposed. hospital; of 100 -bed capacity and other
points; in connectionwith, thefinancing of a hospital. Dr., H. n�
Reynolds, also made a •s.tateruent on this matter.

registered -voter stating the proposition to be voted upon, the date
of the election, axed thee, location of the polling place. ' On'motion
of dhisler ands B:ertscbe i t. was directed that the seven .pabiiea-
tions of the . ordinance as: required by law begin on June 3, 1929.
On motion of Cottrell and Christensen, Ordinance No.
456, calling an election on: the .hospital bonds, was then adopted,
as amended, byunanimous vote on roll call.
Hearing on Setback Line Change
This was the time set for a hearing on the natter of
changing the;setback line or Tots 20 and 21, Block 9, Homer -Avenue
between Everson and Ramona:..Streets . communication was
received from, , the City Plarning Corrrmission requesting the Council
to meet the ;Planning Cor,,mission'in conference to discuss this
matter-,befQre"- action' is;:' taken by the 'Council. On motion of. Jordan

believed the setback line should be rescinded on the whole block
On motion"of Hobart and tfhisler, the hearing was continued until,
the next regular} meeting of the Council, a conference to be held
with the Planning Commission on this matter in the- meantime
Letter from Chamber . of Commerce
A comMunication was received from.tae Assistant Secretary
of.. the Charber of Commerce concerning the bill presented at the
last meeting by Councilman :rood for the float entered by certain

recommendation .

necessary papers be prepared to initiate said proceedings.
Ordinance on,Dogs' in Poo.d Supply Places
A.Ireport was received from Committee No..2 recommending
that the propo_sed'ordlnance in relation to the control of dogs in
- food supply places be :,adopted.
Ordinance No . 457, amending Section No. 646, of Codified
Ordinance .No .. 3, relative to dogs in food supply nlaces, was given
second reading and on- motion, of Christensen and Hobart, was
passed'; by unan unous vote , on- roll call.

Councilman Christensen brought up the matter of the
3c;pool of Citizenship :and Public Administration to be held at the

the Health. Officer, Purchasing Agent and Auditor wo.i J.d like to
attend -this school- instead .of the usual convention; of the Municipal

available, This matter .was referred to Committee No. 4, to
reportback to the. Courci l on Jure 4, 1929.
Bond Campaign
.Mr. F. i'.: Nutting, president of the Cha :.bar of Commerce,
was ?present and offered' the assistance of the Chamber of Commerce

On motion of Inisler and Jordan, the Council took
recognition with gratitude of the organization of th.e hospital
auxiliary whose purpose is to assist persons who are not able to
pay the regular expenses -for -hospital services.
On motion, the Council adjourned to meet on Tuesday,
June 4, . 1929, at 7:45-p. m. in ; the i:ty Hall, at which time it
will.:,neet with Committee No,.5,;to discuss the matter of the
proposed .retirement system for city employees.
