"Attorney. Lett -ex from Palo Alto Residents Club A letter 'was received from the PaloAlto. Residents Club suggesting the placing of house rumbers on curbs,: 'and asking the Council .to use ,its influence in having additional deputies appo:.nted 'by the' County for registration of voters. That:part of the communication referring to house numbers was referred to the Board of Works. That part of the letter -relating' to registration of voters and appointment of additional deputies, was discussed. Mr. F. P. Nutting :addressed the Council on this matter. No action was taken,` lass .Baugi came at this time, 8:10 p.m. and was present during the rest» of the. Meeting. Letter :from :Mrs';. Spencer A communication from Mrs. Martha Spencer relating to eucalyptus trees: was referred to the Board of, Works. ;e ignation :.of Dr. Reynolds :A communication was received from Dr. Harry B. Reynolds, tendering -his resignation as a member of the City Council as hp.is to be 'away from . the City for an indeterminate time. On motion of , Woo0.1 and Bertsche., this resignation was accepted= `with: nmu&- re.gret,' and the City Clerk was instructed to empress to Dr. Reynolds the appreciation of the Council for his cooperation'and service, not only as a council member but as an eminent citizen of Palo Alto. As to Location- of New Well A letter was , received from Dr. Harry B. Reynolds protesting against the use of a portion of the .Mayfield Station park for a pumpingplant. reports were received from. the Board of Works and .Co: mi ttee No . = 1 recormr:,:ending that the new well and pumping 'plant be lacated in `‘"thA--Mayfield Station Park. A report was also received 'from ,'the Planning Comrzission on this matter, approving the _plans: for the well in this park, provided that the building -and ,reeervo•ir be made non-conspj''suous and preferably below the surf ace ,'o f the. ground This. natter was discussed at length, with reference to other possible locations for this . well. D. • James G. Sharp and Rev. E, C. Oakley .addressed the Council, on this matter. A motion was made by Thoits, seconded by Cathcart, that:: the‘ report. of Committee No. 1 recommending; that the well be, located in the:Mayfield Station Park be adopted. Councilman. A report was received. from the Planning Commission stating that it finds no; objections to using the land adjacent to the Plaza for a" -golf course , as per the plan of Mr. Ewing at a month -to -month; rental.. An application was received from Mr. E. P. Garrett also requesting permission to lease land for. a miniature .golf course. This matter was discussed, and on motion of Thoits srd_ 3ertsche, was referred to the ' Board of `Yorks and Committee No. 1 for a report :at the next meeting on March 1'7.th. Report of Ca:mmiss1oners on: opening Webster St. The report .of " the. commissioners in the matter of opening Webster Street from Oregon Avenue to the lands of Mrs . G. 3. Emery. was received. -On motion of Thoits and Mosher,' the City Clerk was direct. d. to publish notice of the filing of this report .and fixing time of hearing on this :matter for the next ecgul ar meeting on April 14, 1930. Report on Relief_Sewer A report Was received from the Board of Works recommending that a relief sewer `for floed waters be constructed on Lytton ;venue ,between.: Waverley and "Webster Streets at an estimated cost of : 33240..00, as per plan: submitted by the City Engineer, with the reeeest that this item be allowedin next year's budget. A report was." received from the Board of Works approving a request to. psve "Sherman Avenue, between Second and Third Streets and recommending that this be added to the paving program for 1930. This was .also referred to Committee No . 1 A.cverse''Possessior_ of Land Referring to the matter of the acquisition of land in the block bounded by _Colorado Avenue, Oregon Avenue, High Street and'Alma:Street,which apparently has no owner, the Board of Works' presented a report„ informig the Council that the City has taken adverse possession of this land and has fenced it in. Reports Were received from the Board of Public Safety and Comma ttee: No. 2 recommending the adoption of proposed ordinance's relating to temporary taxicab perm .ts, to barriers and, to vending machines. Consideration of these ordinances was deferred: to the next meeting. Bepor t on ; Eospital Finances A report was received from E. S. Erwin, Auditor of Stanford University,` and F. v. Pering, City Auditor, upon the costs for the construction of the new hospital building snsi ec "iipment fore; same, showing the . amount of funds available and the, amount necsser# to complete the project. This was placed on file. Sidewalk Assessments A report was received from Committee No. 1 reaffirming its previous- recommendation that the assessment roll for constructfs of sidewalks,:by G , W. Cushing be approved. Resolution No. 856, overruling protests . on this matter and approving the • assessrients, was read., and a motion was made by 3ertsche, :seconded by -Mosher, that this resolution be adopted. Rev. E. C. Oakley, property owner affected by the sidewalk ass-essnentse read a protest he had written on this matter in addition to previous pretests presented by him, with the request thet.: the sidewalks in front of the property of Mr. Ogren, Mr. Preston; Miss Gray and Mr. Oakley, on Bryant Street, be not accepted. 04r. W. L. Peet also addressed the Council in connect;o:: withthe protests. The City Attorney gave explanations of legal prints involved in t;;;is work. Mr. Windram, attorney for: Mr. Cushing, the contractor, spoke on this matter. After discussion, the resolution overruling the protests and. approving the assessments was adopted on. roll call, all present voting Aye. except Kelly, who Voted No. Widening California Ave. A- joint report was received from Committees ]o..1 and No. -4 -recommending that the City pay $7500 towards paving the extra width of - Gali ornia Avenue between El Camino Beal -and. the Souther~ Pacific right of way, and recommending that the Council adopt the 'resolution approving the specifications and the resoluti en of intention. for this work.
