Councilman Kelly referred to the :item of 42280.00 on

The question of salaries was discussed, and it was
stated 'that i thee:coiamittee had. 'thought it advisable not to have
a gener..al salary cu.t' at this time. Attention was, called to the
fact• that all:.sa.laries remain the: sane as 'last year, with the
exception of ; increases in the salaries of the Director of Uti:iti
the City=.Attorn;ey, one, of the meter :readers .0 r. Schims), the
Deputy Auditor, the Assistant Audito7', the Director of the
Comun1ty. Center, and 4.r.-Brotherton;; of the, Recreation Department
. .t s 'pointed out that the office of Legal Advisor has been
e iminated.
_Councilman Mitchell called attention; to Paragraph 15
of the,Economy Committees report, previously adopted by the
Council,, which: reads '"That all appointments made for the next yea
be subject to the reservation that s:alaries may be readjusted
at any time during the year." On motion of Mitchell and
Collins,,, the resolution previously read to adopt the budget was
amended -by incItiding a par agraph tb...the effect that all, appoint:

C•ounc ,ianan Kelly asked if provision is being made for
the, City;: to adapt the 4U -hour week schedule of the National
Recovery Act.. The Mayor stated that the Federal administration
has specifica.ly exempted the employes of political subdivisions
