A letter from. the managers of the Barker Hotel,
complaining of the noise caused by the College Bowling Alley
during the night -hours, and asking the Council to pass an
ordinance governing the closing of bowling alleys, was referred

Hearing by Railroad Commission
A notice -was received from the nailroa.d Com issien of
a hearing to be meld in the city hull at Palo Alto at 2 p .::i. ,
Yriday, December 14,; 19;4, concerning the rekue-st of the Palo
k/ Alto Transit Company o take over the franchises of the former,
' Penµ:nsular Railway Company and to increase the fare of six, cents
provided, in the old . fcranbh;.ses to the present fare of ten cents.

A' report was received from Committee Ao. 5 recommeriding
that Plan No-. IV of the Travelersinsurance Company in the matter
of group insurance be incorporated as a new formula for the group
insurance policy. This plan vvas explained by Dr. Mitchell,
Acting Chairman of Committee : ,Ac. 5, who pointed out that the plan
was based on the present salary schedule with employees ox Class �=
receiving $1500,00 at the age ox 60, end Class III getting ve000.)J
at 6O, this plan producing a saving in cost to the City of $4:;.b

for the group insurance policy was adopted by unanimous vote on

recomnending that the setback line on the property of
Manrvaring, Lot 6 in Block 77, Palo Alto, be changed on i n tman
Court from 11 feet to 5 feet. The ordinance cringing this

Lease witb Associated Air Services
A report was received from the Board of Works approving
the lease agreement with the :Associated Air Services, Ltd.,
for city -owned land as an airport site, and recommending that this
lease be executed by the Council.
The City Attorney reported that, because of the fact
-eat a short time before the consideration of this lease he had
teen consulted professionally by the Associated Air Services on
.:other matter, he had advised, the Board of 1"dorks to have the lease
examined. by ` another attorney of, their own choosing, and that the
Board r1.d chosen to have Judge Joan' E. Springer ;o over the lease.

approving the request of the c yor' s Lommittee on Unemployment
Relied: for an appropriation of V250.00 for relies' purposes, axia
recommending that this sum be appropriated for relief, to be
taken from the unappropriated balance of the General Fund.
Committee No. 3 made a similar recommendation. On motion of
Mosher and Stephens, these reports were approved and the
appropriation authorized, by unanimous vote on roll call.
janitor Service for Community Theatre

A report was received from Committee iuo. 4 approving a
request from the Community Ceizter Cormcission for 4200.00 for
extra janitor service for the Community Theatre, and recommending
this sum be appropriated for this purpose, to be charged to
the unappropriated balance. Committee No. 3 also reported t .at
it approved this request. On motion of lhoits and Bonham,
these reports were approved arld the appropriation authorized, by
unanimous vote on roll ca11.
Approi:r iation for,Tehnis Courts
Committee No. 4 recommended that the sum of Z1250.00
for materials and miscellaneous expenses for the improvement of
tennis courts be appropriated, this amount tobe taken_from the
Contingent `und. On motion or Thoits and Collins, this
recommendation was approved and the appropriation allowed, by
unanimous vote on roll call.
Fireproof Cabinet for Maps
A report was received from Committee No. 5 recommending
that, Instead of the appropriation previously allowed of 4,150.00
for photostatic copies of block maps in the Engineer? s office,
an: ,appropriation of $325.'00 be made for .the purchase of a
fireproof cabinet ° for the storage of these maps. This was
referred to Committees No. i and ,Jo. 4.

her requests during the past year for relief from tax penalties,
asking that the Council adopt the plan now in effect by the
State allowing a ten-year period for payment o ' aelintiluent taxes.

which she read to the Council so that the matter could be
referred to the proper committee .L or consideration.
