Resolution No. 1084, authorizing the Mayor to fie

read, and on motion of Mosher and Richards, was adopted by
unanimous vote on roll call.

There was no report on this matter from Committee No. 1, which
had .had`,no opport;uaity to consider it since it was presented to
the Board of ° Works for the first time at a meeting on this same

Resolution No. 1085, authorizing the Mayor to file
an application for a Federal grant to aid in financing the
moving and reconstruction of the Gas Distributing Center and
Butane " Plant and designating L . H. Anderson, Director of
Utilities, to furnish such information as the Government may
✓j request, was read, and on motion of Thoits and Vdood, was passed
by unanimous vote on roll call.
It was po-fated out that only preliminary plans and
estimates had been prepared for the above projects in order to
comply with the requirements of the Public Works administration
so that applications may be filed by September 4th, and that
these matters would be brought before the Council for further
consideration if the applications are approved.

requested to investigate ana report to the Council, relative to
the improvement of El Camino heal in the mayfiela District by the
removal of poles anix the installation of an electrolier system;
the information secured by the Board to be transmitted Mater to
the property owners and organizations interested in this
improvement in the Mayfield business district.
Petition for annexation
A petition was received for the annexation of the
district :known as ": mbarcadero annex" to the City of Palo alto,
asking that the Council call a special election to be held in
said territory on the question ox annexation. Consideration
of this matter was deferred until the regular meeting.
Leave to .Prof. R noids
a communication was received from Prof. Leon B. re;;no_c3
asking for a leave of absence as a member of the Board of Public
Works for four months, as he will be away from Palo Alto for that
perion. On motion of hichards and Thoits, this request was
granted.
Letter from .vacific Yacht Association
letter uas received from the Pacific Ihter-Club

M communication from the League of California Municipali-
ties concerning the annual convention of the League to be held in
Sate Francisco September 23rd to 26th was received and placed on
file.

a report was received from Committee No. 2 recomnendi:z
that the requestf or aiagonal parking on the Circle, as
presented in a petition from .merchants in the vicinity of the
Circle and university Avenue, be approved and that permission
be granted , for diagonal parking on the Circle. It was
directed that ,the; Board of Safety be advised that the Council
approves the adoption of the necessary regulations to carry out
the recommendation of Committee ,No. 2.
Further Time on Peddaers Orainance
At its request Committee No. 2 was granted further tiee
onn consideration of the matter of the ordinance proposed by the
Independent Merchants League relating to solicitors and peddlers;
the Committee expecting to have a hearing on this subject.
