A report was r.eceiv:ed from the Board of Safety
recommending that thepresent ordinances be changed to conform
with the regulations of the 1334 edition of the National Board
of Fire Underwriters' Code for the installation of oil burning;
equipment. fiction on this.matter was deferred pending a
report from Committee No. ..L to which the subject was previously
referred.
Deed from Laumeister on Baysnore :arid
deed was presented from Gustav and Mabel s. Laumeister
to the city of Palo Alto, covering five acres of bayshore laud
near the Mayfield Slough. The City Attorney explained that the
City had recently completed its ``final payment on this land

A proposed ordinance changing, the setback line on
the soutneasterly side of Bryant Court from 11 feet to 6 feet
for a distance of 65 feet -southwesterly from Vgaverley Street,
which. was given first reading on June :28th, vvas brought up : for
consideration as an emergency ordinance
Ordinance No.. 658:, .changing this setback l ine,as
recommended by the £'Tanning Commission, was read, and on motion
of Thomas and Mosher was ,,adopted as an emergency ordinance by
unanimous vote on roll call.

Attention was callea to the fact that on June 28th
action was deferred by the Council on a report from Committee ao. 4
approving the request of the [ayor's Committee on Unemployment
Relief to bereimbursed in the amount of $19.00 to pay utility
expenses :incurred by the Community Kitchen for the S.E.H.A. sb e
repair project. On .motion of Thomas and Mosher, this report
was approved and the sure. of $19.00 was appropriated for this
purpose from the Contingent Funa, by unanimous vote on roll call.

The reports of the Department of Public Works, the
Department of Public.Safety, Auditor and Treasurer for the month
of June, 1935, were received and placed on file.

Alto Hospital in the amount of 060.50, being partial payment
for hospitalization for the month of J une, was approved and

Councilman Thomas brought up the .t ter of a small
appropriation which is needed for the purpose of buying paint
for the quarters of the Employment Bureau and of the custodian
of the Veterans! building, and pointed out that the workmen will.
be ,available for the work tomorrow, July 9th, and that although
the matter has not been considered by the proper committees he
believed the matter was so urgent that the Council would be
justified in making the -appropriation at this .time. Onmotion
of Thomas and; .osher, the sum of k5O.00 wasp: appropriated to
the : Board -of Works for this purpose, the amount to be taken from
the Contingent Fund, by unanimous vote on .roll call.

J:avor Granted Leave
:ayor Judson asked; permission of the Council to leave
the state on a vacation trip for a period of two weeks beginning
Jt .y 12, 1935. On motion of Mosher and Richards, this request
was granted. The gayor: announced that Councilman Thomas
would serve as Acting ., or .during his absence.
in re Attorney's Uffice:.
The . City Attorney announced that he expected to take
vacation from July 19th to August 5th, and advised the
Council teat his associate, Mr. Avery,. xiowe, would be glad to
be of service to any : member of the Counci.. or to any department
of tile City during the City:: Attorney's absence.
At this point Councilman Costello referred to
criticisms made curing the last fevv months by the Pilo Alto Bar
Association and various groups in connection with the City
E:ttorne 4 s office, and suggested ; that ..the Council consider the
adoption- of an ordinance providing"that the City Attorney
sliaj.i not have a partner acting as an attorney or counsel at,
law in any court in this state" Councilman Salsman
asked that this proposal be referred to the proper committee
for study.
The .Aayor suggested that the matter be held in
abeyance until a largernumber of councilmen are present, and
pointed out that during the summer months it is difficult
to secure a large attendance at council or committee, meetings.
after discussion, the .suggestionof the Mayor was accepted, with
tile understanding that the matter will be brought up again
after the first of aeptember.
On motion of Thomas and Mosher, the Council adjourne
