Resolution for Late Ce uricilm err Chris Jensen
The .ayor spoke to the Council of the loss to Palo Alto
occasioned by the death of Councilman C. 11. Cnristensen on
January .10, 193.5, and read the following resolution:
"Our beloved t'x±end and associate in city matters for
the past eight years, Mr. C. 1i. Christensen, will no longer
at this tablegather with us. In our association we , cane to
know ,him well, to realize his :intense earnestness for
economical, efficient, wise administration of city affairs,
and his =selfish devotion to every cause for the welfare of
the people of Palo Alto.
"It was this understanding by nis associates of the
purpose that dominated him in council matters:, that resultedin his being by them chosen for three successive Years to
be mayor of Palo Alto.; : That this same judgment of Mr.
Cnristensen's sank into, the heart of Palo Alto is ' evidenced
by the fact that though; on his first election to the City
Council in 1927he received the smallest vote, of the five who
were elected councilmen, on his re-election he received the
highest vote ever cast by the people of Palo alto for
councilman
councilman his particular fields of work were
chiefly in connection with city finances and accounting.
It is correct to say tnae he brought before the Council One
present form of, the :city budget. The ordinance that.
increased the authority and the responsibilities of the city
auditor is another example. bus interest in the accounting
of the finances of the city utilities was always with him.
s ,.gayor, fir . Christensen initiated the practice, since
followed, of the ayor's being, at the city hail part of
almostevery day, there to consult with citizens on ratters
they wished to bring before the Mayor.
"4r. Christensen spent .much of nis private time in
unselfishly working for the betterment of this city and with
results: of ,permanent value.
"Ile was: a devoted, faithful Christian man. he became
an elder of the Presbyterian Church when he was seventeen
years old . and remained elder for forty -.four years. Since
early years he has been a teacher of the bible. e was a
devoted husband' and father, a loyal friend, a true gentleman.
"Palo Alto is richer because for thirty-four years he
lived in this city.'
