In order to permit the City to meet the contract obligation with the State for financing the improvement, it was recommended that bids or, the sale of the improvement bonds to be issued for the unpaid assess.. rnents be taken. The committee further recommended that the staff be requested to study and present a recornznerdation for street widening for the area south of California Avenue. Coinc1m.ari Bishop reviewed the discussion of the matter' in committee, stating that'the property owners feel that the alley is not needed fcr' the office -type development planned and they feel. that the setback requirements and widening of the alley to bring to adequate width preclude development from an economic standpoint. He advised that the. staff has •re•cornmendrd that the present alley, be retained in anticipation of a future alley widening to serve abutting properties, which are zoned for commercial use. Mr. Bishop also advised that the committee felt that Sherman Avenue and other streets in the area should be considered for widening and proposed that the staff 'be directed to ,study and submit an overall recommendation for street widening in the area. Councilman Bishop advised that the staff has pointed cut the need to .relocate and expand some of the City's activities, including the corporation yard, public safety facilities, central communications', civil: defense, etc., and has recommended that eminent domain proceedings be initiated so that this 30 -acre site car. be held until a study is made to determine what facilities would be located on the site and the amount of acreage required. The Mayor suggested that the resolution be considered first, and the recommendation. regarding selection of site planners and studies be considered in a separate: action.
