Baylands 6/15/65 The Planning Cornm:issicn reported it had considered the proposed Council -changes to the previous Planning Commission recommenda- tion amending portions of thy; General Plan relating to the Bayla'rids and un,aninr_ously.,reco:nmerids the following: (1) that the Bayfront Freeway be deleted and that the Counc.1.. take a strong stand and make their reasons ;Available to the public and to the Highway i)epartznent why they do not want this Freeway; (2) that the addition of an overia.y of the Park Dedication: Ordinance is not necessary as it b7sicaily would be shown in' the General Plan; (3) deletion of the power plant site reserve; and (4) that the title of the ,area designated as "Uncommitted Reserve"'be amended to "Uncommitted, Reserved for. Mr. Blois referred to previous minutes o_ i the Planning , Commission and questioned their recommen- dations: As to the'second: objection, Mr. Blois reviewed the sur- roundings: the new tunnel to a; shopping center, the Sondgroth Gravel Company, the overpass and railroad tracks. He said his client agreed with the-neighborhood.assocxations that their privacy should be pre- served. without disturbing their residential neighborhood by high-rise apartments, but they believed that granting commercial zoning at the corner and approving an R-1 subdivision adjacent would not harm nor „ do them an. injustice. He spoke of the traffic on Alma and noted that a gasoline station, would not generate any new traffic. In summation, Mr. B1oi.a; said the objective of all zoning should be to put the land to the best use or uses to which it is bent adapted. Councilman Rodgers moved and it was duly seconded that the appli- cation be approved and that the staff draft an appropriate ordnance for first reading at the next meeting. Councilman: Cooley moved an amendment that the matter be continued for thirty days.:. The motion was seconded by Debs but was declared lost on a majority voice vote. . Councilman Rodgers amended his motion to add that the matter be continued <until the next Council meeting, June 28, 1965.
