John 13, Gunn, 4010 Orme Street, presented a petition of over 100 signatures of nearby property owners who protested the proposed lot division on the oasis that it would be detrimental to their area; that it would set c Precedent which would lead to further lot divi signs and deterioration Hof the neighborhood; that it would initiate congestion on a street without curbs or sidewalks leading to an elernentary school; and that a dangerous situation would be created; by the proposed driveway: Mr. Gunn said they were presently served by two, 2 -inch water mains and questioned whether fire protection was;, adequate; that they were interested in having their area rezoned to R-1:3-10; and they urged the Council to deny the, application. Mr. Gunn submitted a :-reap of the area in which the lots of the property owners who had si.gnerl the petition were out limed in red. Councilman Porter moved, seconded by Cooley, that the Council return the matter to the. Planning Commission to investigate the possibility of rezoniYig-the .entire area. Councilman Flint moved a substitute motion, se%onded by Zweng, that the Council deny the. application. After a short discussion, the two motions were con.- solidated anc't Councilman ,Porter moved, seconded by Flint, that the Council deny the application and request the Planning Cor his-. lion to initiate a change of zoning on all large lots ir. that area Robert Ericsson, representing the owners of the property who are his; parent's, pointed out that the present house has a side yard of, 30 feet which left:ample space for the proposed 22 -foot driveway to the rear, .lot; that the setbacks and :sidelines were greater than the standards set by Palo Alto; that there was a fire hydrant at the ,. corner of his property; that the school had indicated they wished;to dedicate -Georgia Avenue eventually to Palo Alto, which would then give their proposed rear tot direct access to the street.
