RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
SUPPORTING STATE PROPOSITION NO. 1-a
WHEREAS, Pr oposition 1-a, a Constitutio nal Am endme nt, will
be on the stat ewide ge neral election ballot on Novemb er 5, 1968,
an d
WHEREAS, Propositi on 1-a is meat to provid e p roperty t ax
relief, and
WHEREAS, Pro position 1-a will p rovide tax relief fo r home-
owners, ten an ts and bus inessme n, and
WHE REAS, Pr oposition 1-a would provide fo r s ubv ention s to
loc al gove rnment to offset the decreas ed revenu e to cities,
counties and sc hools , and
WHEREA S, Pro position 1-a would effect t ax relief witho ut
seriously hamper ing city, c ounty a nd school oper ations as well
as provide for or derly long-te rm development, and
W HEREAS, severa l pr ovisions of Sena te Bill No. 8 for tax
relie f a re contingent upon passage of Proposition 1-a, includi ng
the exe mption from ta xatio n of fu rnishings a nd house hold effects
of householder s, exemption of 15% of the value of business in-
ventories with the State providing a subvention to offset this
loss of r evenue , a nd the doubling of the sta ndard de duction of
single persons a nd married couple s,
NOW, THEREFORE , the Council of the City of Palo A lto does
RESOLVE as follows:
1. Tha t the City of Palo Alto o fficially go on re cord
as supporting Pro pos ition 1-a and ur ging its passage in November .
2. That this su ppo rt be commun ica te d to all groups a nd
individuals within the community who a re in tere sted in effe ctive
loc al gover nment.
