RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
REQUESTING THAT H .R . 14028 AUTHORIZING A SKYLINE
NATIONAL PARKWAY BE AMENDED TO EXTEND THE PARKWAY
TO STATE HIGHWAY 129, TO INCLUDE THE FULL LENG TH OF
THE CREST OF THE SANTA CRUZ MOUNTAIN RANGE
W HEREAS, the Ho norable Cha rle s Gubser, membe r of the H ouse
of Re pre se ntatives, U. S. Congr ess, h as int roduced H.R. 14028 to
au thor ize the Secretary of the Inte rior to designate the Skyline
Na tional Pa rkway in the Stat e of C alifornia; and
W HEREA S, similar bills have been introdu ced int o the U. S.
Sen ate by Senator Thomas Kuch el ,'d Senato r Geo rge Murphy; and
WHEREA S, these bills describe the parkway as extendi ng only
to Sar atoga Gap in Santa Cla ra Cou nty; and
WHEREAS, the Skylin e is an important scenic and re creation re-
source which extends a ll the way a long th e c rest of the Santa Cruz
Mo untains to the end of the range of the Pajaro River Vall ey at
Route 129 near the southern boundary of Santa Clara County; and
WHEREAS, this resour ce in its full ex tent has gre at p ote ntial
for the u se and en jo yment of all the people of the United States
as a National Parkway a nd des erves the protection that w ould be
affor ded by National Parkway status;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of
Pa lo Alto urge s the Hono rable Charle s Gu bser to amend H.R. 14028
to describe the pr opo sed National Parkway as extending the full
length of the cr es t of the San ta Cru z Moun ta ins to State Highway 129.
BE IT FURTHE R RESOLVED that copies of this reso lution be s ent to
Repr esen tative Gubse r and Sena tors Kuchel and Mur phy and to the Com-
flittee on Interior an d Insula r Affa irs, U. S. Ho we of Repre sentatives.
