RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
REL/ ^ TO THE CALIFORNIA COASTAL REDWOOD ROUTE
WHEREAS, it is in the public interest and welfare of the
people of Santa Clara County, the State of California, and the
Nation to have established a National California Coastal Scenic
Redwood Road and Trails System; and
WHEREAS, the. Legislature of the State of California has
enacted and the Governor signed Chapter 1.8, Division 5 of the
Public Resources Code (1966 Session, Senate Bill 23); and
WHEREAS, the National California Coastal Scenic Redwood
Road Committee which was appointed under the authority has com-
pleted its presently authorized task by submitting its final
report to the 1968 Legislature; and
WHEREAS, the report strongly recommends the creation of a
California Coastal Redwood Route with a further recommendation
for proper staffing and funding to make a plan for implementing
the Redwood Route; and
WHEREAS, the Council strongly supports these recommendations
as a vital step in the development of a project of statewide
and national significance.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the
City of Palo Alto hereby approves of the recommendations of the
Final Report of the National California Coastal Scenic Redwood
Route and Trails Committee and urges early state legislative
action and gubernatorial approval of continuing legislation to
implement the California Coastal Redwood Route;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk of the City
of Palo Alto is hereby directed to send copies of this resolution
to the Governor, the members of the legislature that represent
Santa Clara County or portions thereof, the Association of Bay
Area Governments, and the Board of Supervisors and the City
Council of the County of Santa Clara.
