The Council of the City of Palo Alto met on this date
at 8 p.m., pursuant to the following call
" A meeting of the Council of the City of Palo Alto is
"hereby called for Monday, Mach 24, 1519, at 8 o'clock p.m., to
"consider matters in relation to the removal of the Hostess House
"to the city's leaded land, and to tra eact such other municipal
"business as may come before the council.

Mayor Cooley presided.. Roll call as follows;
Present:. Cathcart, Cooley, Easterda;; , Henry, Jordan, Miller,
Peterson, Roller, Snyder, Thoits, ''fail,
Absent. Fisher, Mosher, Swain, Wing.

A resolution entitled "Resolution of the Council of the
City of Palo Alto Re1ati g to the Proposed Community Center," was
introduced. and read and on metion of Thoits and. Jordan was. 'clabsed
by unanimous vote on•rr)11 call, Said resolution approves the re-
port of a Committee of Seven Citizens, provides for the acceptance
by the -city of $4,376.47. from the War Camp Community Service and
refers the location of the Hostess House to be removed from Camp
Fremont to the City Planning Conmiesion.
The preparation of an ordinance relating to said Com-
munity Center Was on motion of Peterson and Thoits referred to
Committee #1 and the City Attorney.
Motion to Remove 13oai d of Public Safety: LosL.
-. Vail made the following, motion, which was seconded by
Petersont
"I move that the Board of Public Safety be removed from
office."
Mr. Vait stated that he was a member of the special cos:-
mitt.ee which investigated the police department and which :made cer-
tain -recommendations. The Board of Public Safety had acted direct-
ly opposite to the recommendation. He was convinced. that the find-
ings of eaid Board were not in accordance with the facts and for
this reason he felt it his duty to make the motion.
A general discussion followed, after which a vote was
taken on the motion with the following result
Ayes: Peterson, Vail.
Nees: Cathcart, Cooley, 3aaterday, Henry, Jordan, :Filler, Roller,
Snyder, Thoits.
The Mayor declared the motion lost.

In explanation of his vote, Mr. Snyder said he vas not
willing to vote to remove the entire Board, but would feel jnsti-
fiect in voting to remove Mr. Sloan, who, while a member of the
Board had received -pay for supplies and service rendered the city,
which was in violation of the law.
On motion of Jordan and Thoits, the ' 1 adjourned.
