The minutes of the meetings of September 16th and 23rd
October 14th and 28th and November let, 1910, were read and ap-
proved as read.

A communication from the Union. 'rich. School Board in
regard to a fire alarm box at the High School building was re-
ferred to the Board of Public Works :.n :lotion of Vail and
Snyder (J.0.)
Mayfield Annexation: CJ.'...r t":e.
A communication was received from the Board of Trustees
of the town of Mayfield, asking that I.,l:e ':ouncil appoint a com-
mittee to confer with a committee from said Mayfield board in re-
gard to annexing Mayfield to the City of Palo Alto.
On motion of Vail and griller the Mayor was empowered to
name a committee of five for said porposel

A communication was received fro the Andrus Taxi Co.
stating the said company desired to purchase the property known
as the Skating Rink on Bryant street for use asa garage and ask-
ing if there are objections to such use.
A protect was received against the proposed use of said
property as a garage signed by 40 property owners and residents
of- that vicinity.
Vail moved that as thie property is outside the zone in
which garages of the character contemplated can be located that
permission to use the came as a garage be denied. The motion was
seconded by Henry and pazsed.
Scofield Petition Denied.
A ,req'aest from "m. Scofield for permission to bwild a
garage at 616 Cowper street within leis than three feet of the
side property line was denied on motion o4' Vail and Peterson.
Petition for Church Ser7icew_ ,eferrec.
A communication was received from the Church Federation
asking that permission be granted to hold public worship in the
several churches on Sunday morning. On motion of Swain and Pet-
erson the request was referred to the Mayo,; ..nd Board of Safety.
Report of Committee z
Mr. Swain, chairman of Committee #5, stated that his
committee had under investigation the ::ratter: of tee payment of
the 2% franchise tax by the Peninsular .railway Company. The com-
mittee was givers further time.
Transfer of $1000 to Subw ;-
The chairman of committee 5 moved that $1000 held in
escrow by the City Treasurer, money taken from the Subway Fend and
deposited with the Treasurer on August 13th, , 1917, as a tender to
Loretta B. hart and she having failed to take such tender, be re-
turned by the Treasurer to the City Auditor to be deposited in
the Subway Fund. The motion was seconded by Peterson; and passed
by unanimous vote on roll call.

Cloime Allowed.
The claim of the City Auditor for pay for extra help and
for overtime in the sum of 350.50. referred back from committee
vithout recommendation, was on motion of aemy and �i ,ter allowed
by unanimous vote on roll call.
The following claims reported favorably from Committee
#5 were allowed on mo ti on of Vail and Swain by unanimous vote on

Resignation of E. J. Swder.
The resignation of E.J. Snyder as Councilman to become
effective at once was read by the City Clerk.
The resignation was accepted on motion of Vail and
d':.B. N ieher Elected Councilman.
On motion the Council proceeded tonne election of a
Councilman by secret ballot to fill the vacancy caused by the re-
signation of Councilman Snyder. Swain and. Snyder (3.0.) were ap-
pointed. tellers,

b.B.Fisher and 1 vote for L. M. Hopkins.
The Mayor declared Mr. Fisher elected for the term end-
ing June 30, 1919.

that an appropriation of $450.00 be made for the salary of a.

On motions of Peterson and Vail an appropriation of

al fund was. made by unanimous vote on roll call.
Expression of Thanks.
On motion of Jordan and Peterson an expre.sion of appre-
elation' of the, services rendered by_ Prof. :.C.L. :Fish during the
influenza epidemic was tendered him.
