The Council of the City of Palo Alto met on this date
at 8 p.m.pursuant to the following; call:
Palo Alto, Cal., August 31, 1918.
A special meeting of the Council cf the City of Palo
Alto is called for Friday, August 2, 1918, at o p.m.
to consider the matter of the formation of a local
health district, to include the territory in the north-
ern part of Santa Clara County, and to consider an or-
dinance for zoning the city, and to transact such other
municipal business as may come before the Council.

Mayor Cooley presided. Roll call was as follows:
Present: Cathcart, Congdon, Coole,, , henry, Jordan, Miller.
Snyder (J.0.) Swain, Thoito.
Absent: Mosher, Peterson, Roller, Snyder (h.J.) Vail,

A report was received from ,

district be formed, in conformity with n petition requesting t'ret
such district be formed.
A resolution entitled "Resolution of the Council of the
City of Palo Alto Relative to Petition for th:, Formation of a Lo-
cal health District Which is to Inc :ude, among Other lr:unicipali-
ties, the Incorporated City of Pr_:410 Alto," was read.
Swain moved, that the resolution be adopted and the mo-
tion was seconded by Jordan. After a generel discussion and a
review of the law authorizing such health diems -riots, the motion
was lost by unanimous vote on roll nail.

A report was received from the City Planning Commission,
recommending that the ordinance enacted on July c, 1912, adopting
the Buildin:, Code of the National Poard of Fire Underwriters as
the Building Code of the City of Palo Alto, :be reenacted.

given first reading.

Said report wae accompanied by a map showing the proposed zone
areas. Thereupon the following resolution was passed on motion
of Congdon, seconded by Swain, by unanimous vote on roll call:
"Resolution of the Council of the City of Palo Alto
relating to a tentative report of the City Planning
Commission of said City on the question of district
in& and zoning said City.
The Council of the City of Palo Alto do Aeso?ve
as follows:
Whereas, the Council of the City of Palo
Alto has received a tentative report and resolution
from the City Planning Commission of said City, read
ing as follows:
'Resolved: That the City Planning Commission of
the City of Palo adopts as its tentative report re-
quired by Section. 4, of Chapter 734, of the Statutes
of 1917, the plan entitled: Preliminary Zoning Plan:

Now, Therefore, in pursuance to prociz.ons of
section 4 of Cha.te,. 734 of the Statuteo of 15_7
this Council does hereby fix Thursday,. the 8th d 'y
of August at the hour of 7:30 p.m., at the Council
Chamber Room in the City hall of the City of Palo
Alto as the time and place at which a public hearing
-
shall be held by said City Planning Commission be-
fore it presents to this Council its final report on
a district and zone ordinance for the City of Palo
Alto.
