The Council of- the City of Palo Alto met cr. this date at

Communication Yrs. Alderton) Filed:
A communication was received from :'rs . _, , S. A2 dertan
relative to the search of her horse on December 21, 1917, under
:arrant from the police court. On :notion of Thoite and Jordan the
communication was ordered filed..

A report mss. received from a joint meeting cf Committee
e2 and the -eoard of Public Safety, recommending that an ordinance
relating to garbage collection be pa.'ssed and that the ;'eyor be em-
powered to appoint a. coz.,nnittee of citizens to appear before the
county supervisors to ask. an.appropriation to aid in paying the
salary of a woman protective officer, was approved. -
The matter of the passage of said ordinance was postponed
to the regular meeting in April.
C an ;e in Laetr,od of Collectin Rates: A. roved.
A report -was received from Committee r'5, recommending
that 7, change in the form or receipts used in collecting rates
and in regard- to reading meters be authorized.
On motion of Swain and Jordan the report was approved,
said changes to be effective July 1, 1918.
Ponca Extension Authorized.

The mayor reported that ."e had had telephones installed
in the clerk's and engineer's offices as authorized.
On motion of Vail and Henry the installation of a tele-
phone in the meter reader's office in the First 'rational ::;a.rk build.-
was authorized.
Plannin Commission Report: On Fire Limits.
The report of the Planning Commission, reeommen ing that
the application for a permit to erect a business building on
3ryart Street in Block 21 be not granted until toe fire limit
boundaries r,.ave been reviewed and revised, was approvec and the
later of such revision was referred to Committee „2 find tie Board
of -ublic Safety on motion of Vil1er and Thoi.tc.

The election of a Councilman to fill t:..e vti.cancy caused

by the resignation of E.P.Lesley was on motion postpced to the
reEu;,,er meeting ir. April. The Attorney quoted a ccurt dec:.s en
to the effect that an elector who has reside; in the annexed ter-
:ito$y for threeyears is eligible to :membership in the Council.
