The minutes of the meetings of February 12, 1918, and of March 11, 1918, were read and approved as read. Appointment ofProtective Officer Asked. Mrs. Edith W. Maddux addressed the Council on behalf of the War Council of tre Y.W.C.A. , the Civic League, the Parent Teachers' Association, the School Board and other organizations, asking, that the Council authorize the appointment of a woman pro- tective officer on the local police force. Yrs. Alien of the Woman's County Council of Defense spoke in support of the req eet. On motion of Snyder (h.J.) .) and Vail the request was referred to .;oramittee #2 and the Bo tr'a of Public Safety to inves- tigate and report. Letter from Edward Ack1e . A letter from Edward Ackley in relation to E.F.'+ eisshaar was on motion of Jordan and :.liner referred to the :3oard of Public Works. Request for Eu .1di. ; .ere.i Rcf er e o. Adjournment to March 18 1.918. Vail moved that when the Council adjourns it adjourn to ionday, March 18 , 1918, ay 8 p.m. The motion was seconded by Peterson and passed. Claims Allowed. Resia;nation of Officials. The resignation of E. P. ;eelev as a member of the City Council was received. On motion of Vail and Jordan the resignation was accepted with an expression of appreciation of the valuable service Mr. Lesley has rendered the City. The- resignation of the Rev. F. E. Morgen as a. member of the City Planning Commission wsa accepted with an expression of ap- preciation of his services to Palo Alto. Petition for Lights Granted. F. M. Armstrong requested that the city furnish h free lights for an evangelist's tent to be placed on University Avenue in Block 20, Jordan moved that water and light be furn i he d free to such tent.
